Building beauty from the pieces of a broken system. We haul, reuse & reycle glass. Youth owned business grown out of South Baltimore Community Land Trust.
Today we presented our friends @VioletvilleInc w/a special piece of @BaltimoreGlass art for incredible work in setting up a community compost drop off site to stop food from being burned at the incinerator or buried at the landfill. Support communities in #zerowaste@MayorBMScott
Attended Senate hearing on stopping public subsidies for trash incinerators in MD. Very hopeful to see so many residents and officials taking time to support a common sense correction to the mistake that started in 2011. Only opposition came from subsidy recipients.
Happening Today: Senate Bill 0590 Reclaim Renewable Energy Act of 2023 will be heard in committee! This is the year to finally remove incineration and other dirty energy from Maryland's renewable portfolio standard! #ReclaimRenewable#mdga23#TrashIncineration#ZeroWaste
It's strange but true - for a decade, MD has wasted our renewable energy $$$ profiting companies that burn trash! It's time for that to end - click here to support @DelegateStewart & @KarenLewisYoung's #ReclaimRenewable Energy Act! https://t.co/FstsZjGJO2 #mdga23#ZeroWaste
This 4.5 ft tall heart was going to be our largest & most ambitious piece to date made of hundreds of pieces of glass collected from Baltimore's broken waste system. Sadly, the heart broke. Crushing after hours of work...but having a CLT gives us the freedom to truly experiment
Sign on now if you agree that an open air coal terminal within 1,000 ft of a Rec Center is a major planning mistake that needs to corrected ASAP!

We'll be at this awesome event this Saturday to meet with other worker owned co-op startups and share a little on our work to help fix our broken waste system! Hope to see you there too!

Honoring two incredible leaders with some of our handmade glass art! Shashawnda is a force and @nikifab77 brings heart and love to confronting our broken system.
Amazing night @redemmas with @nikifab77 and @BaltimoreSouth celebrating the movement we are building for zero waste, environment justice and community owned development.
Follow @BaltimoreSouth on Twitter for updates regarding the amazing environmental justice and fair development work happening in Curtis Bay! Come on out to events if you are in Baltimore and support our youth on Etsy & buy art from Broken Glass! https://t.co/nuJ2es3IOP
@davea2010@MayorBMScott@Nick_Mosby@BaltimoreDPW@SustainBmore Yes + we need a recycling processor who's actually interested in recycling vs. one w/ a conflict of interest because they're primarily a landfill operator. Recycling is a big challenge...imagine if we had a partner fighting to make it work through research + policy development
Shashawnda helped us get started by challenging us to learn more about our waste system in Baltimore. We all live near the incinerator and the landfill and now are taking on changing the failed system we have by taking on a piece of the Zero Waste movement!

Shashawnda breaks down the hypocrisy of incinerators as a sustainable solution in her Curtis Bay community. Her truth? Pervasive respiratory problems, mold in homes, and other issues linked to #environmentalracism. @BaltimoreSouth
@BaltimoreSouth@ElectRyanDorsey Feels like public contracts are a key tool that provide officials with an opportunity to lead by example and open up more opportunities for exisitng and emerging zero waste efforts in our city
@BaltimoreSouth@ElectRyanDorsey Take our city’s recycling contract… no requirements that waste management actually recycle glass. That’s a feature of waste management’s approach to “recycling” that our city officials continue to reward. The contract language doesn’t reflect a city government trying everything
@ElectRyanDorsey Appreciate the councilman for calling out the broken system we have that burns things that have value for our earth & communities. Baltimore has zero waste businesses & programs that, if supported with anything close to Bresco & waste management, would be real support.
