Today, “Minister” for Home Affairs Patrobas Katambi illegally ordered police to suspend permits for all public political rallies nationwide under the pretext of “security.” This silences opposition and criminalizes peaceful assembly.

Warnings are no longer enough. The @SenateForeign just advanced the bipartisan Tanzania sanctions bill. Now is the time for real consequences—targeted sanctions on officials dismantling democracy and violating rights.

Democracy dies when peaceful political participation is banned. US Congress & European Parliament: Act now. Pass the bill. Coordinate sanctions. Stand with the people of Tanzania.
