Last night, I read the entirety of C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. It's a novel told in the form of letters written by a demon to another demon instructing him on ways to manipulate his "patient" to do evil.
This one quote sounded familiar.
This series by Dr. Bahnsen is worth listening to, especially his talks “Law and Disgrace” and “Law and Wisdom.” It was given at the 20th anniversary of Chalcedon Presbyterian Church, then pastored by Joe Morecraft.
@RevJimOPC Do you think presbyters spent more than a few minutes handling this publicly and more than a few hours privately w/ the complainer?
Wouldn’t a personal and pastoral process result in a complaint like this being handled internally 99 out of 100 times?
(Maybe this is the 1/100!)
The #OPCGA turned to Complaint #10 which originally came from within a congregation in the Presbytery of Central Pennsylvania. Very simply, the complainant alleges the Session of said congregation effectively made Christmas Eve a holy day.
CN twitter is far more head-divided than heart-divided with those standing at the breach letting enemies in. Stronger rhetoric, heart set on true peace.
The leadership class is most often irenic in speech, but their actions actually show divisiveness in heart.
Mel Duncan with the Wormtongue comment towards Wolfe.
Trying to out ministers who are "enemies".
Doxxing and persecuting anons.
Slanderous / erroneous / weak study reports.
Weaponizing of church courts.
Silencing opponents.
Guilt by association.
the list goes on...

Hey PCA friends,
I’ll be leading a seminar at GA on recovering the practice of pastoral visitation. My hope is to cast a vision for recovering what I believe to be a vital aspect of pastoral ministry.
More information will be shared as we get closer to GA!
You’re gonna have a hard time finding them as ready to make any negative comments at all. Pure defensive mode publicly.
Preserving the status quo is always the big priority, it seems
We saw some conservatives in the PCA criticizing the Rio Grande Presbytery for the Zach Garris injustice.
But it’s easy to criticize a Presbytery miles away. Now with the VanDodeward-Ligonier video, and Kevin deYoung’s study report, it hits way closer to home.
What’s become of the semantic world that makes sense of the doctrine? Political liberalism devoured it.
There are downstream consequences for biblical doctrine in losing nature and natural affections.
Without the sweetness of natural affection for your own sons, how can you begin to speak about the surpassing greatness of spiritual adoption?
Without natural affection towards one’s own brother, how can you begin to speak about the surpassing greatness of calling Jesus “brother”?
