They named them » swaptions » short for swap options

❓ How a swaption works

Swaptions are like buying a flexible reservation for a future deal on interest rates.

Imagine you want the option to switch between 2 types of interest rates in the future:
• a fixed rate (like a steady monthly payment) &
• a floating rate (one that goes up or down with the market)

A swaption lets you reserve the right to make that switch later (if you want to)
