We’ve launched a new “Web” filter that shows only text-based links, just like you might filter to show other types of results, such as images or videos. As this is a complex update, the rollout may take up to a month. It's likely there will be more fluctuations in rankings than with a regular core update, as different systems get fully updated and reinforce each other. We'll post to our Google Search Status Dashboard when the update is finished."

Google looks to be heavily testing changes to the multi-image thumbnail treatment right now.
In some cases, they've even started to default to a different treatment. Where instead of showing the standard 7 images, this has decreased to 3.
In the past, the advice I've given around this feature relates to ensuring your category page has >8 images being indexable and relevant to the query.
This advice hasn't changed with this update, but it can be helpful to know that 3 images can now gain entry to the multi-image treatment, rather than 7.
Have updated my guide with some additional details around the changes I'm seeing: https://t.co/vroG3C7fii
