142 of those days were recorded before 1955 and 100 have been since 1956.

Overall, there is no statistically significant long-term trend (not even +0.05 days / decade; p = 0.5).

The recent increase since 2021 is not a part of a long-term trend. It's just the ebbs and flows of the climate system. While there have been a total of six days this year with highs ≥100°F in Nashville, there were 20 in 1954, 19 in 1952, 15 in 2007, 14 in 1930, 12 in 1988, 11 in 1881, and 10 in both 1925 and 1990, 9 in 2012, and 8 in 1983. None of the last ten years make it into the top ten.

The high period now isn't “new” or unprecedented in the long-term record. Memories are short.

In October 2024,@BillNye told MSNBC viewers that if Americans voted for Kamala Harris, we could stop destructive hurricanes like Helene and Milton from forming in the North Atlantic by stopping climate change.

Funnily enough, Trump won the election and last year was the first time in a decade that no hurricanes made landfall in the U.S. despite La Niña conditions. This year, none have hit the mainland and in fact, there have been no hurricanes at all in the Atlantic up to this point, the first time since at least 1941, largely thanks to Saharan dust and El Niño-induced wind shear.

No hurricanes have formed in the North Atlantic Ocean so far this year.

This is the FIRST time on record in the satellite era (since 1966) that we have made it to September 12th without at least one Atlantic hurricane yet in the calendar year.

This is also the first time since at least 1941 that this has happened. Year-to-date ACE is lowest since 1941 as well. If we get through September 21st without any hurricane formations, it will be the first time since 1914 (there were none that season).

Can we get there? Nine days to go. The NHC thinks we will notch at least seven more. The race is on.
