Derrière la figure du vieux sage adulé pour sa défense des opprimés se cachait un bourgeois cynique qui profitait directement de la faim des gamines des rues, achetant frénétiquement des jeunes filles souvent âgées de quinze ou seize ans à peine.

Celui qui a fait pleurer des générations entières sur le sort tragique des femmes du peuple réduites à vendre leur corps pour survivre s'offrait cette même misère pour quelques centimes.

Le grand moraliste tenait d'ailleurs une comptabilité effroyable de ses abus. Dans ses carnets intimes, il notait méthodiquement les tarifs sordides, l'âge et les actes sexuels, réduisant la chair des misérables à un simple livre de comptes.

Ses journaux cryptés regorgent d'entrées glaçantes où l'on peut lire par exemple : "La petite blanchisseuse, 15 ans : 2 francs", ou encore "Fille de la rue de la Verrerie. 16 ans. 1 franc 50.", au milieu de froides descriptions anatomiques codées en espagnol.

La cruauté de cet homme s'illustre de manière encore plus tragique avec Juliette Drouet, la maîtresse dévouée qui lui a sacrifié cinquante ans de son existence.

Pendant que l'écrivain s'érigeait en champion universel de la liberté, il exigeait de sa compagne une soumission totale, l'enfermant à double tour et anéantissant sa carrière d'actrice.

Alors qu'il amassait une fortune colossale grâce à ses droits d'auteur, il prenait un plaisir sadique à la maintenir dans une pauvreté humiliante.

Sa correspondance dévoile le calvaire d'une femme brisée. Transie de froid l'hiver, Juliette devait le supplier pour payer le boucher ou acheter du bois, lui écrivant avec désespoir : "Je suis si pauvre, mon adoré, que je n'ai plus de souliers à mettre à mes pieds".

Pendant qu'elle mettait ses propres robes en gage pour survivre, Hugo dépensait sans compter pour multiplier les passes avec des adolescentes des quartiers pauvres.

Le monde littéraire entretient aujourd'hui une amnésie bien commode pour protéger la statue d'or du grand républicain au Panthéon.

Ses propres écrits décrivent plutôt un rentier de la morale qui sublimait la pauvreté dans ses livres pour mieux l'acheter et l'asservir dans son lit.

Every few months I watch this video and it brings me from anger to tears to hope.

No one demands you to give an answer as to who an Indian is. No one is ever confused as to who an Israeli or Turk or Japanese or Korean is.

And yet every time someone tries to assert an American identity that’s worthy of being protected politically, suddenly we all act as if no one has any idea what an American is.

It’s as if these people demand you define what a chair is and then when you give an answer, they’ll tear it to pieces and then claim chairs don’t exist even as they’re sitting in one.

It’s all so incredibly disingenuous. We aren’t playing this game any longer. “American” is not a synonym for abstract universal man who also happens to believe non vague notions of freedom.

Everyone knows what an American is, including those who pretend not to know, which is why they constantly attack the concept in the first place because they are fundamentally opposed to the idea that there could ever be an inherited identity that anyone ever organizes themselves around politically.

Until the Jewish community at large disavows this behavior I will uncover more of it.

Will the government follow up on any of this? Only time will tell.

And yes: if it's not clear enough by now, a large majority of self-described "conservatives", opposed to "waste", "fraud", and "abuse" have no principles.

If a story exposes the "protected groups" that are part of "their team", they become silent or defensive.

Often forgotten is that the connection of Puritanism to Levelling is one of the main reasons why it was distrusted and disliked

For example, Virginian Declaration of Independence signer Carter Braxton, said, "I hate their government - I hate their religion - I hate their levelling," when describing the Puritan New Englanders

There was always the fear that they would use their less hierarchical religion to achieve social revolution, as the Anglican church was understood to be a key pillar of the traditional order, involving, as it did, the defense of hierarchy

Interestingly, this did somewhat happen with abolitionism and Reconstruction, but only after they'd left the real Christian faith more or less behind when Puritanism morphed into Unitarianism
