Today, The Nation Mourned those lost to the September 11, 2001, attacks and the Memory of those who we continue to lose. It’s important to keep in mind that America, New York City, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, were deliberately attacked. The New York City Fire Department, the nation's largest fire department, suffered a tremendous loss on that day. This week, the FDNY has had several ceremonies, including this one today at New York City's Firemen's Memorial. The Firemen's Memorial was dedicated in 1913. To the men of the Fire Department of the City of New York who died at the call of duty, soldiers in a war that never ends this memorial is dedicated by the people of a grateful city, Erected MCMXI. The monument serves as a permanent reminder of the service of those lost to the people of New York City. (Imagery David Burns/@FD4D) @FDNY@FDNYFC@FDNYFoundation@UFANYC@UFOA854@NYCEMSwatch
Twenty-five years later, some moments are impossible to forget.
On the eve of the 25th anniversary of September 11th, former President George W. Bush visited FDNY Ladder Company 3 on Thursday—the firehouse whose apparatus was so badly damaged in the collapse of the World Trade Center that it never returned to service. Today, that rig is preserved at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
President Bush spoke with members about the days and years that followed the attacks.
The bullhorn speech at Ground Zero. That unforgettable first pitch at Yankee Stadium. And the people who stood together when our city—and our country—needed them most.
A quarter-century has passed, but the memories remain. #NeverForget
1/3 of people in the US weren’t born when the towers fell, it’s a story in a history book. as long as we’re here to tell the stories of the lives lost, and heroes who stepped up they will NEVER be forgotten.
that day America stood still, and then stood together. never forget.🇺🇸
Today we honor the 343 FDNY members lost on 9/11, and remember Fairfax County Fire & Rescue and VA-TF1 members who deployed to the Pentagon that day.

Helmet camera video from a Tower 18 crewmember shows the intense conditions Charlotte firefighters faced while responding to an early morning house fire in the 1400 block of LaSalle Street.
The first call was received at 4:28 a.m., and crews from Firehouse 18 arrived three minutes later to find a single-family home under renovation heavily involved in fire. Additional crews responded, and firefighters brought the fire under control at 4:48 a.m.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force determined the fire was intentionally set. Intentionally set fires create unnecessary and unpredictable risks for firefighters, nearby residents and the surrounding community.
Estimated property damage is $121,000.
