A few questions for the people who believe patients in jarring physical pain should simply “just deal with it” without opioid medication:

What level of pain would you personally agree to live with every single day?

A week?
A month?
A year?
The rest of your life?

At what point would you decide your own suffering mattered?

If you were injured tomorrow and every morning started with pain before your feet even touched the floor… would your opinion stay exactly the same?

If someone you loved couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, couldn’t function, and had already tried everything else, would you still look them in the eye and tell them relief doesn’t matter?

Nobody is saying medications don’t have risks.

They do.

Responsible prescribing matters.

But chronic pain patients are not statistics on a chart.

They are parents, veterans, workers, friends, neighbors, people who had entire lives before illness or injury changed everything.

The conversation should never be “give everyone everything” or “give nobody anything.”

It should be:

how do we reduce harm without abandoning the people who are already suffering?

Because it’s very easy to have all the answers about pain when you’re not the one living in it.
