#Parachinar and surrounding areas have been suffering for the past 5 days due to continuous clashes and violence. While Dawn reports these are tribal clashes over a piece of land there are many on Twitter who claim sectarian reasons behind the violence. The mainstream media and anchors must highlight the plight of Parachinar and the locals to not only bring out the truth but also to force the State machinery to focus its efforts in bringing peace to Kurram Agency and protecting those suffering violence. Kurram has had a bloody history of sectarian clashes and its local shia community has been victim of multiple terror attacks and siege at the hands to terror outfits including TTP. In my visit to Parachinar in 2017 after a bomb attack which claimed dozens of lives, I learnt how over the years the youth of the city mostly shia has been forced to migrate or seek asylum abroad due to lack of economic opportunities and continuous threats to life. The people of Parachinar had to stage a 10 days sit-in protest back then before anyone from Federal Govt responded. Don't test patience of the oppressed and don't ridicule their plight any further. After the Fata Merger KP Govt is responsible for law and order in the area. Unfortunate that an interim set up i.e. unelected officials continue to govern KP even after 6 months against the dictates of the constitution. In the long run depriving any area or region of democracy will only facilitate violence and not peace.
