When disability is used purely as a plot device you always run into problems. In story, casting, ethics, writing, representation, you have to begin with authenticity.
Otherwise you perpetuate dogeared ideas of disabled people that harm the community (that you ain’t even in!!!)
Today, the ENO is hosting a relaxed performance of It’s a Wonderful Life, which 1000 disabled people and carers will be attending. ACE threatens the ENO’s future, its workforce and its initiatives to make opera inclusive and accessible.
