@DanNeidle Some American companies import under the freight industry IOR ( importer of record) service. This means no vat number for the US supplier when they import into U.K. [ they import because many Europeans and Brits won’t]. So VAT becomes a cost to them. Wrong technically but common.

Those who were not sat to the left. In modern western polities the progressives are now often the establishment.

@HarryStebbings Commonplace all over Europe and in other parts of the world. Spain one of the worst. Makes it hard and costly to set up companies, get tax registrations and make investments. Institutionalised across most of Europe.

I think it’s different. In 1939 everyone could see the justification. It’s harder to see that now. Lockdown without a cost benefit analysis and without an exit strategy based on questionable data. Hard to get everyone behind that in the same way.

Most small businesses exist on a few months cash and a small marginal profit. They can’t continue much longer. The collective impact of that will dwarf Covid.

If there is no time limit on your Covid policy then the the implication must be you don’t care about what’s happening to our youngsters or cancer patients.
