Yesterday was hard. Hesitantly, I went against my pacing guide, paused my learning objectives and leaned into restoration. Together my students and I engaged in a discussion- cultivating our classroom community by reevaluating our previously developed classroom values and norms. It was a vulnerable starting place to rebuild and repair a difficult day.
I think about the long term effects of teaching tricks instead of conceptual understanding. Students have no way of knowing when to use the trick or why it even works. This is why our kids struggle so much in algebra. We can do better for our kids. #MathWhys
This is what was happening in 3rd grade math class today. Students working collaboratively and socially making connections. So happy to witness the camaraderie that Modern Classroom has fostered in my classroom. 💙 @modernclassproj and @Screencastify
After only two weeks of implementing a blended learning environment in my classroom, I am already seeing it as a win-win. I was conferencing with a student on Friday and he said, “Wow, every time I come to math class, I feel like a math wizard!” 💙 @modernclassproj
Best email I got this week from my colleague! More @modernclassproj experimenters seeing the benefits of blended learning! So proud of your work @MissD_ACScience ! @_ACMSCougars @drycreekschools
So thankful to Modern Classroom Mentorship Program and Screencastify for this amazing opportunity. Started the transformation in my classroom after Christmas Break and I can already see amazing results from my students. @modernclassproj@Screencastify
Review days with @modernclassproj are individualized to what each student needs @CBWestHS. Some are finishing lessons, some are drawing on the table, some are playing taboo or escape rooms. And of course we fit in some bunny love! #biobrains#tunauncaged
Thank you @Screencastify for the amazing opportunity you have given me to be a part of the @modernclassproj cohort. The sweet surprise gift of this amazing t-shirt, stickers for my chrome book and pens were an added bonus. 💗
The constant pressure to “catch kids up” doesn’t actually lead to increased mastery of content or skills. You can’t rush kids through learning experiences. You can’t devalue relationship building because kids are “behind.” All you can do is work to meet kids where they are at.
