One point I will always adamantly insist on is that it's entirely possible to live a joyful and exuberant life in the midst of this abusive dystopia.

There's a pervasive, unexamined notion throughout revolutionary politics that there's some kind of nobility in being miserable. If it isn't seen as noble, it's at least seen as rational, because everything is so unjust and unhealthy.

There's a widespread assumption that your level of political awareness should have an inverse correlation to your level of personal happiness, because of all the tyranny, injustice, poverty, genocide and ecocide. That it would be selfish to be happy in a world so deeply troubled.

But that's rubbish. Nobody is helped by your misery. By depriving yourself of joy, you are only depriving the world of that much joy. Being more joyful makes you more energized, more helpful, and more useful to the cause, and it brings joy to everyone around you.

Being joyful is a skill, and like any other skill it takes practice. But it's something we all have access to if we want it.

Being joyful doesn't entail hiding from the misery of the world or compartmentalizing away from the reality of what's happening; quite the opposite, in fact. It entails opening yourself all the way up to what's happening in each moment and feeling it all with the heart of a poet. It means becoming MORE sensitive, not less, because a stripped-open sensitivity is where ubiquitous beauty is found.

We always have access to joy because we always have access to beauty. Beauty is everywhere. Even in dystopia. Even in this slow-motion armageddon we now find ourselves in. Even in the exhaust fumes and the flashing screens. Even in the polluted oceans and falling bombs. Everywhere you look, everywhere you feel, everywhere you listen, an overpowering beauty shines forth.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that's false. Beauty is in everything. The FAILURE to see beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is just another word for the experience of having truly seen something. If the eye is failing to see the beauty in a given moment, the fault lies with the perceiver, not with the perceived.

You know that feeling when you're showing someone your favorite movie for the first time, and it's at your favorite part, and you look over at them to see their response, and they're missing the whole thing because they're looking at their phone?

Most people live their whole lives that way. Missing all the best parts while fixating on empty nonsense. Keeping their attention wrapped up in their mental monologues of judgement and worry. In their endless search to distract themselves from the present moment. In their doomscrolling and other addictive behaviors.

They're missing moment after moment of radiant, electrifying beauty, and they're trading it all for so very, very little. They're going to look back on their lives from their deathbeds and realize that they weren't really there for it. That they missed all the best parts while chasing their goals, running away from their aversions, and trying to distract themselves from the tedium of it all.

The best parts that get missed are the parts our minds tend to dismiss as boring and unworthy of our attention. The daily commute. The wait in the elevator. The kitchen cleanup. The hanging of laundry. The sights outside the window. The sounds inside the room. The feeling of the floor under the feet and the air in the lungs. Every single moment of this is packed full of staggering beauty.

I insist that this is true. Insist on it. If we were fighting holy wars over this principle, I would happily die on the front lines defending it. There are very few things in life that I hold a rock-solid uncompromising view on, but the fact that there is beauty in everything is one of them. Anyone who disagrees is simply wrong, and I will tell them so with great vehemence in my voice.

Don't waste your precious time here missing the beauty of each moment. This is more important now than ever, because we don't know how long humanity's adventure on this miraculous blue world will last. Tomorrow has never been guaranteed to any of us, but these days it's not even guaranteed to our species.

We are all going to die. Maybe we will die one by one, or maybe we will all die together in one frightening moment. In either case, we owe it to ourselves and to our world to try our very best to deeply appreciate every moment of every day of the time that we have left.

Just keep bringing your attention back to what's here and now, and keep looking for the beauty in it. I swear to you it's there. It's there in the feelings in the body. It's there in the sights, sounds and smells of everyday living, no matter what else is happening in your life or in our world. Keep looking for it, and you'll get better and better at seeing it.

That's how life becomes more joyful. Not by chasing the highs or running from the lows, but from learning to relish the beauty that's inherent in terrestrial sensory experience every single moment of your life, no matter what else happens to be occurring.

Learn to do this, and you can live the rest of your life knowing that even if it all comes crashing down one day, at least you'll know you tried your very best to make sure you didn't miss the miraculousness of your time here.

2. No budget was allocated.
A democracy that removes choice from citizens.

Now, what the nation actually won.

Farmer income this year, from ethanol alone.

Forex saved this year, crude we did not import.
~₹43,000 crore.

Combined gain, one year.

Now the other number.
The one-time cost to make all 14 crore vehicles compliant.
~₹70,000 crore.

One year of the win pays the entire bill.
With margin left.

This was never a nation that could not afford fairness.
This was a nation that won.
And made it look like a failure.

Choosing energy independence is a sovereign act.
Every serious nation does it.
But why betray it's people due to irresponsible Beuraucrats?

A government that speaks of strength abroad.
Forgets to fund the strength at home.

Fund it fully.
Or subsidise it at 50%, minimum.

Not because science demands it.
Because democracy does.

The Jewish Bride captured by Muhammad

Safiyya bint Huyayy was the daughter of a Jewish tribal leader, respected, noble, and newly married. Her family had already been expelled once when Muhammad drove Banu Nadir from their land. They relocated to Khaybar, trying to rebuild their lives. But Khaybar was attacked as well.

During the raid on Khaybar, her father was killed. Her husband was killed. Her brother was killed. Many of her tribe were killed. Safiyya, a young bride, was taken captive along with hundreds of other Jewish women. They were treated as spoils of war — divided among the victors to be kept, used for sex, or sold.

One of Muhammad’s companions, Dihya al-Kalbi, chose Safiyya for himself. Then Muhammad was told that Dihya had taken an exceptionally beautiful captive. He summoned Dihya and exchanged her for other women (two according to some reports, seven according to others). She became his share of the war booty.

On the journey back from Khaybar — about 180 kilometers away — the army made several stops. During one of those nights, Muhammad instructed that Safiyya be prepared for him for sex. She had just lost her father, husband, and brother. She was grieving and devastated. Nevertheless, that night he slept with her in his tent.

Islamic sources themselves record that one of his companions stood guard outside the tent the entire night — afraid she might attempt revenge. Other narrations attributed to Safiyya state that Muhammad was the most hated person in her life because he had killed her father, husband, and brother.

Later versions of the story attempt to soften it. We are told he apologized repeatedly until she became pleased. We are told she had a dream about him before the battle. We are told that freeing her and declaring her his wife erased the brutality of the circumstances. We are told she “chose” Islam.

But none of these additions change the core facts: her family was killed, she was taken as war booty, transferred between men, and sexually raped within days of her capture.

This episode is not a minor footnote. It forces uncomfortable questions about power, conquest, consent, and the moral character of Muhammad. No amount of later embellishment removes the brutality of what happened to Safiyya.

A word was enough.

The term was retired.
The damage was not.

And yet this same political class still campaigns on "secularism."

Secularism in India has never meant equal respect for all faiths.

When Thomas Babington Macaulay wrote his infamous Minute on Indian Education in 1835, he explicitly stated his goal:

Jairam Ramesh tweeted in September 2024 that the Adani Nairobi airport proposal would spark protests turning into anti-India anger because of the Prime Minister’s so-called “special friendship” with Adani.

What actually happened tells a very different and disturbing story. Adani offered nearly $2 billion to upgrade Jomo Kenyatta International Airport under a concession model. The deal was cancelled in November 2024 after a coordinated campaign of protests, negative publicity, and a social media drive led by Kenyan influencer Nelson Amenya all fuelled by US allegations that have now been closed by the Department of Justice for lack of conclusive evidence.

Even a fake press release was circulated to damage Adani during this period.

Two years later, Kenya awarded a $2.9 billion contract almost 50% higher than the original Indian offer to a Chinese state-owned company. India lost a major private investment opportunity in East Africa. China gained strategic ground while Kenyan taxpayers were forced to pay significantly more.

Jairam Ramesh and the entire Congress party didn’t just stay silent they actively amplified this controversy from India. Their political attacks helped turn a legitimate commercial proposal toxic and made it easier for China to step in after an Indian company was pushed out. Was this really just political opposition, or was there something more deliberate behind it?

Congress has a long and consistent history of aligning with China. They had signed an MoU with the Chinese Communist Party and maintained that relationship for years. Whether it is weakening India’s stand on the border, opposing Indian companies abroad, or creating obstacles for projects that can strengthen India, Congress has repeatedly shown that it has no problem working against Indian interests when China stands to benefit.

When it comes to choosing between protecting Indian interests and helping China, why does Congress always seem to choose China?

Their actions in the Kenya airport case have once again exposed whose side they are truly on.

Why the bereaved mother at the podium is a prop. Why the soldier’s coffin is a backdrop. Why the disaster zone is a photo opportunity he resents having to attend.

He is not merely immoral.

Immoral implies a relationship with morality, a knowledge of the line and a choice to cross it.

He is something emptier than that.

He is a man for whom the suffering of others has never once interrupted a single thought about himself.

And that is not incidental to why empire chose him.

Empire does not need its figureheads to be evil in the complicated, motivated sense.

Evil has convictions. Evil can be argued with.

What empire needs, in its late and rotting stage, is a man with no interior life, someone who will sign anything, threaten anyone, perform any cruelty, because performance is all there ever was.

The emptiness is not a bug.

It is the qualification.

The word that does the most work in "individual liberty" is not liberty.

It is individual.

The individual in liberal political philosophy is a specific construction: a rights-bearing, property-owning, self-determining agent whose freedom is the fundamental political unit.

That individual, in 1776, was a propertied white man.

Everyone else, the enslaved, the indigenous, the female, the propertyless, existed in relationship to that individual.

As property. As labor. As dependents. As wards.

They were not individuals in the technical sense the philosophy required.

You cannot have rights violated if you are not recognized as the kind of being that has rights.

The philosophy didn't ignore them.

It categorized them out of its own definitions and then called the result universal.

Your point: the current meaning only omits chattel ownership.

Yes. But the structure remains.

The idea that freedom belongs to a particular kind of person and is defined against the unfreedom of others did not disappear.

It just updated its vocabulary.

It is designed to sound profound.

The symmetry of it, the even-handedness, the philosophical sweep, it feels like wisdom.

What it actually does is collapse all distinctions.

The mythology of a country that dropped more bombs than all of World War II combined on a nation of rice farmers is not equivalent to the mythology of the rice farmers who survived it.

Scale exists.

Power differentials exist.

Consequences exist.

"All societies" is the language you use when you want the appearance of analysis without the discomfort of doing any.
