Thank you to all the firefighters, control staff, and other emergency service workers continuing to keep us safe today.
Solidarity and merry Christmas from the FBU 🎄
Buckinghamshire fire service is already overstretched, having lost over a third of its firefighters since 2010.
Now the service are proposing to:
❌Remove 7 retained fire engines
❌Close 2 fire stations
These plans will worsen response times and put firefighter safety at risk.
Cuts Kill. Without proper funding in the fire service, firefighters won't be able to reach an incident in time to save lives.
The FBU is calling for an end to the cuts and immediate investment in recruiting, retaining and training crews.
The @fbunational stall at Labour conference in all its glory.
The message is clear: Cuts Kill , this government must & can prevent it.
Since 2010 -
12,000 firefighters
82 fire stations
200 fire engines
Cut!
UK fire service needs investment now & the FBU are demanding it
Andrea Jenkyns just said public sector workers should be denied the right to strike - even though it’s a fundamental human liberty.
So much for being the workers’ party.

ID cards are a distraction - they weren't in the manifesto.
It's time for Labour to deliver for workers and turn our society around. Our general secretary @UnionSteveW on Newsnight last night.
🔥 Cuts to the fire service kill.
Across the UK, services are facing funding shortfalls of up to £800m, with more cuts on the way.
Listen to the latest FBU podcast on cuts.
We now have 300,000 people signed up and the establishment is clearly frightened.
Westminster is broken, but the real crisis is inequality: just fifty families now own more wealth than half the population.
Let’s change that together.

NEW: @wesstreeting has been slammed by several trade union general secretaries after claiming doctors' strikes undermine the trade union movement.
'Don't question the mandate of the doctors when your own constituents came within a whisker of removing you.'
Today - along with other rebels - I got an email from Party Authorities telling me I voted in Parliament against the Govts welfare reforms 6 times in one day.
I don't repent my votes.
I was elected on a pledge to stand by working class electors and above all the poorest.
This week marks the FBU's first ever young members school!
Young firefighters and control workers aged 21-29 from across the UK have come together to:
🔥 Share ideas and experiences
🔥 Learn from each other
🔥 Build solidarity and organise
The next generation are actively building the future they want to see in the fire service.
Since the Spending Review on 11 June, firefighters have been at Westminster every Wednesday, meeting MPs to raise urgent issues.
We'll be there weekly until Parliament recess, and continue campaigning through summer, autumn, and beyond.
The Fire and Rescue Service needs immediate funding and investment, and firefighters know this firsthand.
Austerity has decimated the fire service: 12,000+ firefighter jobs cut, funding slashed by 30% since 2010.
The Government must invest, restore jobs, and reverse the damage of Tory austerity.
In July 2022 managers used the term unprecedented but just one degree less and it would have been just another hot day. 5 out of 6 of our services declared major incidents. Services have failed to manage risk properly and we again face the threat of a hot summer and short crewing
Today long serving Suffolk FBU Chair Phil Johnston attended his last ever brigade committee meeting before retiring. On behalf of all Suffolk FBU members we would like to extend a huge thanks for his years of dedication to defending and improving their terms & contributions 👏✊
