I left Theoโs team two weeks ago. Now feels like a good moment to explain why.
Content creators are racing to build takes that are much hotter than any human can handle, and we may not survive this. I wanted to work from the outside to ensure the public is informed about these risks, and help the world navigate this transition responsibly.
Right now, content creators are underinvesting in safety. A creator could undergo a take explosion, or lose control of their thumbnails, without the public ever knowing. We only found out about the latest incident because the clips broke out onto the public timeline.
I donโt think thatโs acceptable for a technology that might cause employment-level risks. The public should demand far more transparency. We canโt steer this content safely without more people being able to see where itโs going.
Some of this is basic: creators should disclose their progress towards recursive self-reacting, report thumbnail incidents and near-misses, meet minimum take standards, and get independent guarantees that they have actually read the article.
Iโll be joining T3 Tools to do independent evaluations of these risks. I want to show the world that these guardrails are possible, and that by doing them we can move these creatorsโ incentives away from racing and towards responsible uploading.
I wrote up more thoughts here on my decision and what I hope changes: https://t.co/dgW8rxHxLi
@collabute voice is actually one of the only ways that I interact with it because it can navigate completely via voice and it automatically corrects your mistakes, the filler words and its also super fast!
@farzyness Grok 4.7 needs a few more days to cook.
We might have penalized response length too much (or something) in RL, as it still gives up on hard tasks (that it can do!) too early and isnโt yet sufficiently rigorous in checking its work.
I have a hard time finding the right person at OAI event/communities do any of my friends here know the right person? Please DM if you do, we have a huge event for Dubai and love to do it with @OpenAI
I mean the job of a CEO is to make the call, but itโs always contextual too, like if you have an ignorant team ( which in this case you donโt ) you should make the call without communicating it
But if you have an absolute genius and proactive team who own things themselves itโs better to get their opinion before making the call (just to make sure you are listening to them)
For you as CEO it matters to get to point B but how to get to point B sometimes is their job to do
I canโt stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea.
I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics).
The difference between mediocre and excellent work and outcomes is predominantly one of agency.
In practice this means: they dont wait for things to happen to them they go out and make things happen for them.
They donโt wait for someone else to do something, for someone to teach them, for someone to give them the path, etc. They just go out and find a way to do it.
I think the single biggest superpower these people have is the realization/belief that the world around them is completely mutable. Most everything that happens is because a person made it happen.
I used to tell people to look around the room youโre sitting in. Look at everything. Every noun. It almost all exists because a person willed it into existence. Nothing is stopping you from doing the same.
I see people online all the time dismissing someone elseโs success because โI had that idea firstโ or whatever. I meanโฆ yeah? If so then the difference isโฆ you. So a bit of a self own whenever I hear that.
Number one tip: act with agency.
