Mariam Yahia Ibrahim, a Sudanese Christian and medical doctor, was sentenced to 100 lashes and death by hanging after refusing to renounce her Christian faith.

Because Sudan considered her Muslim through her absent father, the court convicted her of apostasy despite her lifelong confession of Christ. According to them, she could not be a Christian, married to a Christian, in this Muslim majority country. She was given three days to recant. She refused.

At the time (in 2014), Meriam was eight months pregnant and already caring for her young son in prison. She spent months chained to a prison floor with her 1-year-old son by her side.

While shackled, she gave birth to her daughter, Maya, inside the prison. Her execution was delayed because of the pregnancy, but she remained imprisoned until an international outcry led an appeals court to overturn her conviction and order her release.

Looking back on her ordeal, Meriam said she was not afraid. "Being in prison strengthened my faith even more," she told CBN News.

His father was killed just days after he was attacked and left for dead 💔😢

Benjamin Gyang, 26, had been lying in a hospital bed for three weeks, both legs mangled from a terror attack that had already taken everything his family had.

On June 30, 2026, his father was trying to save him.

With no savings left to pay for Benjamin’s surgery, 41-year-old Gyang Gwaha left his community on the outskirts of Jos in central Nigeria to find work at a nearby artisanal mining site. It was a last resort — hard labor under the sun to raise money for his son.

At 9 a.m., as they neared the camp, gunmen who had been waiting in ambush unleashed a spray of automatic gunfire. Gwaha and two other men were killed instantly.

At that same hour, Benjamin was waiting in the hospital, hoping for good news from his father.

The news came from a hospital stretcher. The only survivor of the attack was wheeled into the same ward, bleeding from bullet wounds. It was from him that Benjamin learned his father would never return.

Now the young man who went into the hospital with broken legs is left with a broken heart — orphaned, injured, and facing a future without hope.

I worked in tax department of two oil companies for 13 years, heading the unit for 6 years out of those 13.

One major thing I learnt from that role, which still applies to me in my post 9-5 endeavours today, is outlook to problem no matter the scale.

FIRS can bring a tax "liability" of N20 billion and I won't budge.

I knew I would defend it - legally - and we probably won't pay 1% of that. Worst case, we take each other to court.

In most cases, they just apply flat tax rates on your company's balance sheet items and slam you as tax liability.

All those things don't move me.

We will defend it.

That was practically my lifestyle for 10+ years. My work.

Anyone not familiar with the job - including accountants in other departments - will start shaking when such letters come.

I have learnt not to.

I also faced National Assembly committees at least 4 times, with my executive management, on those things.

Now, that I have "retired" from 9-5, the outlook to seeming problem follows me to my endeavour.

My business once had a half a billion Naira financial obligation to settle and our liquidity was very tight. Three days to due date, we didn't have up to 10% of that in bank.

My other management staff were worried. I wasn't. I was still going to play my football. No one is going to die. 😀

Well, by stroke of miracle, we had business patronages that got us cash to settle that obligation.

I learnt to dismiss seeming problem from m experience working in tax.

When I was in Kuje Prison, I met Haruna Garba Gololo, who was sent there by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He had been granted bail for nearly three weeks but was still unable to meet the bail conditions.

He’s spent several weeks in prison before being granted bail.

I also met David Nwokorie, who was arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police Force following a messy breakup with Genevieve Opara, the daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hilary Opara. Last week, when Justice Rita Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court granted David bail after he had spent close to four months in prison, he was required to present a Level 16 officer and a colonel in the Nigerian Army as sureties. these are almost impossible bail conditions.

Even the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who is complaining of wrongful imprisonment of 93% of current inmates dragged a critic, Emorioloye Owolemi, before the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, over alleged cyberstalking, and the man languished in prison for months.

I was sent to prison by Tinubu.

There are 817 awaiting-trial inmates in Kuje out of a total prison population of 1,115, with 47 of them diagnosed with tuberculosis.
