Been better a poet, actually an MD diving into Neurology and Multiple Sclerosis research
Clinical diagnoses of cognitive impairment and dementia often reflect a mixture of different neuropathologies.
A GWAS with N up to 12,509 now explores the genetic architecture of neuropathologic features related with cognitive decline including
👉Alzheimer's disease pathologies (e.g. amyloid, tau)
👉other neurodegenerative pathologies (e.g. Lewy bodies, TDP-43)
👉cerebrovascular disease (e.g. atherosclerosis, arteriologsclerosis, CAA)
👉vascular brain injury (e.g. lacunes, white matter lesions)
In a "landmark" decision, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Ocrevus for treating children and teens with relapsing-remitting MS. https://t.co/ZUyPPHIlWv #MultipleSclerosis#MSTreatment#MSResearch#MSNews
Echoing this experience. I think we are losing the battle against surreptitious AI use in peer review, but I'm begging people who do it to at least check that their AI is not demanding a million laborious analyses that are not actually critical to the conclusions.

🏆 Congrats to Sergio Baranzini of @UCSF for winning @Mssociety's Barancik Prize for Innovation in MS Research. 🎧 Don't miss our recent podcast with Sergio and @AdilHarroud of @mcgillu on their discovery of the first #genetic marker for #MS severity. ▶️ https://t.co/co3p7hnrKB
This thread on human disease architecture generated a lot of interesting discussion and I wanted to highlight some important concepts that we still DON'T know the answer to (mostly suggested by others):

A 🧵 on some of my intuitions/priors about the genetics of complex and molecular traits in humans (i.e. what I think of as typical), largely motivated by GWAS/QTL studies over the past decade [citing papers with nice figures where possible]
The culture of science has gradually transitioned toward a more executive and results-oriented approach, contributing to a less creative environment for transformative science https://t.co/nvWUAWbnCO
As this case illustrates, inborn errors of immunity can underlie isolated encephalitis and should be included in the differential diagnosis of these presentations. Learn more: https://t.co/FYS0PQK6p2 #NeurologyRF#NeuroTwitter
