We have launched today a $42 million Humanitarian Appeal for Ukraine 🇺🇦 for 2026. This funding will help protect access to health care for 700,000 people.

With this appeal, we will:

▶️ sustain trauma and emergency care in frontline areas
▶️ maintain essential primary health services, including for chronic conditions and mental health
▶️ support medical evacuations for the wounded and critically ill
▶️ ensure care for displaced people along transit routes and in host communities
▶️coordinate more than 200 health partners to keep the most needed services running.

I got my flu shot today. 💉

As influenza & other respiratory viruses, including #COVID19, start spreading, vaccination remains our best defence.

@WHO_Europe has launched the “No one knows your risk like you do” campaign to mark the start of the new influenza & COVID-19 season.

Our message - get your flu shot every year, stay home if you’re sick, wear a mask if you have symptoms, and keep up simple habits like handwashing & ventilating rooms. Protect yourself & others around you.

Stick with the science. Get vaccinated. Stay safe this flu season.

Deeply alarmed by the attack on a UN humanitarian convoy in the Kherson Region 🇺🇦, which included my colleagues from @WHOUkraine, @OCHA_Ukraine & @WFPUkraine. They were delivering aid to a war-affected community that had not received assistance for months.

I fully echo the statement of UN Humanitarian Coordinator @matzschmale: humanitarian workers must never be targeted. They risk their lives to deliver life-saving assistance to those in need.

We stand in solidarity with our @UN colleagues and call for full respect for int’l humanitarian law & the protection of all humanitarian personnel.

Today, I visited the 🇦🇿 Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium 🇧🇪, my home country, to sign the condolence book for the victims of the tragic plane crash in #Aktau 🇰🇿.

October 7, 2024 marks a year of untold suffering, beginning with the Hamas-led massacres in #Israel, a @WHO_Europe Member State.

A year in which @WHO's vision and mandate of #HealthForAll has rarely been more challenged - or more crucial than ever.

A year marked as well by the intense suffering of hostages - children, women, men - taken from Israel, and their families. We call yet again for their immediate release.

And we call yet again for a ceasefire, paving the way for the region to acquire the best medicine: a lasting peace.
