we didn’t get Roe codified, we didn’t get healthcare, we didn’t get affordable housing or groceries, we didn’t tackle climate change, or gun violence, we didn’t increase minimum wage. But we did get a genocide, students thrown in jail, and handing the country over to fascists
FDR, 1936: "Government by organized money is just as dangerous as government by organized mob. Never before in our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they are today. They are unanimous in their hate-and I welcome their hatred!"
The voters:
The working class of this country is angry.
They have a reason to be angry.
The very wealthy are doing phenomenally well, while 60% of us are living paycheck to paycheck.
It’s time to get big money out of politics and create an economy that works for the people.
Bernie Sanders responds to Nancy Pelosi's statement that "I don't respect him saying that the Democratic Party has abandoned the working class."
SANDERS: "We have not even brought forth legislation to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, despite the fact that some 20 million people in this country are working for less than $15 an hour in America today...if you're an average working person out there, do you really think that the democratic party is going to the mats, taking on powerful special interest and fighting for you? I think the overwhelming answer is no."
It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them.
While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change.
And they’re right.
Harris’s brother in law, UBER chief legal officer Tony West, talked her out of pursuing anti-Big Business populism. Instead, she started following the advice of Billionaire Mark Cuban.
Useless party.
I’mma say the hard thing. Kamala Harris did not lose the election because of racism and misogyny. That was a negligible reason at best. Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar, and Summer Lee all won their seats in swing states VP Harris lost. Sit with the real reasons why she lost.
We saw a glimmer of this with the Walz pick and he called corporate greed out… we lost that when they hid him because he was outshining Harris and pivoted to rubbing elbows with war criminals daughters.
People can viscerally feel that our economic and political system is broken.
If Democrats keep refusing to label and fight the REAL enemy (the billionaire class), then Republicans will keep spreading the lie that immigrants and trans people are the enemy. And the lie will work.

How have deep blue states moved in this election from 2020 to 2024:
New York: D+23 -> D+12
New Jersey: D+16 -> D+4
Massachussetts: D+33 -> D+26
Rhode Island: D+23 -> D+13
Connecticut: D+20 -> D+8
Vermont: D+36 -> D+32
Maryland: D+33 -> D+22
Delaware: D+19 -> D+14
Democrats have once again decided to place the very risky bet that catering to moderate, college-educated voters will win more support than it loses in working-class defections. https://t.co/NG9hw3Wd5k
For the last 2.5 years, cost of living has been voters' number one concern.
Trump, GOP have zero plan to improve the situation. But they talked about it a lot, and capitalized on popular resentment toward smug Democrats talking about the GDP.

The Dems tried to force an unpopular octogenarian president on the electorate. Having finally replaced him at the last minute, they ran a right leaning campaign that doubled down on the worst instincts of Obamaism and Clintonism. And here we are.
i dont want to say i told you so, but this run to the moderates looks like a spectacular failure. "lethal military," muscular border policy, and parading liz cheney didn't swing votes in dems favor and only worked to normalize republican positions.
And then pivoting to the economy as a reason and failing to mention corporate profits as an outsized cause of current inflation. Seems pretty out of touch, or too much of a party guy, time for a challenger? (2/2)
Look at the numbers here. There is not a single group in which a majority favors continued fighting in Gaza.
50% of Jewish Americans favor a ceasefire, only 34% oppose.
58% of White Evangelicals want a ceasefire, only 23% do not.
