Elon Musk, who wants to build millions of robots per year to replace workers, is now worried about the “pain” humans may cause AI.
No Mr. Musk, we should be worried about the pain that AI could cause humanity, not the other way around.
HUMANS FIRST.
Anyone using the term “alignment” in the context of software has lost the plot and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Software does not need to be “aligned” with people. That imbues it with properties it does not have.
It is dangerous to continuously anthropomorphize this perfectly understandable and controllable software.
The false impression that an algorithm running on a GPU has human motivations just provides an excuse to the irresponsible children running frontier labs to make aggressive viruses and call them intelligent.
This industry should be shut down because it’s wasting trillions of dollars on slop machines, not because it’s birthing an evil baby.
Get a grip.
I wrote in The Australian about why bowing to lobbying from AI companies on copyright would be such a bad idea for Australians, and for creatives around the world.
The Australian government must not legalise the theft of our creative work on its soil.

AI movies are made through a machine. You can be as descriptive as you want, but the truth is, that art, animation work and voice acting, is stolen from something that existed. That's why AI movies have no soul.
I've read this numerous times now, and “We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from” strikes me as such a bizarre flex. Like announcing your house caught fire and then casually mentioning you used your own brand of fire extinguisher.
"Frontier labs losing share and pricing power to Chinese open source models is akshually bullish for demand"
"Everyone knows the spending commitments are bullshit, doesn't matter bro"
"Delayed AI IPOs are a healthy sign"
AI bois reaching record levels of cope lately
This would be historic! In the sense that it involves regulating the tech industry in any way shape or form, which is why I’m so doubtful about it. Sure would love to be wrong
genuine question when did the gamedev vibe shift from "we want to make games people want to play" to "as a provider of tools and technology to much of the industry we both acknowledge people hate what we're doing and do it anyway in favor of the nebulous concept of 'the future'"
The things Sam Altman is trying to pin on open source models are EXACTLY the things we are at risk of NOW from his proprietary model and those of his competitor Anthropic. He is accusing his competitors of being the kind of threat he already is.
when generative AI sloppers argue against real artists with “ohh artists felt the same way when the camera was invented”
but cameras actually take skill to use meaningfully 😭
people who believe everything can be "solved" can't solve the easiest mental health problem of all time by stopping work on the thing they believe is awful
Elon Musk’s SpaceXAI will testify under oath before the @NYCCouncil on Friday, October 16.
After refusing to join their peers at last week’s hearing on AI safety, we issued a subpoena and made clear we were prepared to take legal action if they did not comply.
No company is above accountability, and self-regulation is not enough.
We expect answers on Friday.
🚨Final nail in the coffin of the AI IPOs? 🚨
“The ten highest-quality models carry 14% of developer tokens, down from 55% last year, as cheaper, "good enough" models win on volume.”

In the AI future they envision no one has a job but everyone has spare money to buy the 10x more product/content they say they'll be able to make.
I can't take those people seriously.
