@FatiganteMr I feel like Math is one of the hardest subjects to stray this away from being that it is very formula heavy. How would you plan to make it more engaging for the students? How would you make sure they still know the basics?

A6: The lessons shown in alike are not engaging to the students. Repeating how to write ABCD on a worksheet with a pencil. does not allow for the student to have any freedom or choice in their learning. #TCH296

A5: Developmentally young adolescents need to be creative and think for themselves. Given choices about what materials they use or input into what they will learn about. Students should be engaged with the curriculum not just bystanders in it. #TCH296

A4: One specific risk I feel that I could take in my teaching especially in science is inquiry based learning. Allowing the students to work through hands on problems to gain knowledge on the topic rather than listening to a lecture. #TCH296

A2: In my own experiences when we were taught cursive I felt similar. I had the worst time in school with handwriting. Cursive in school made me feel robotic, mute, and just plane board. Alike showed these repetitive behaviors very well by turning grey.

@Scyonamine As teachers it is CRUCIAL we acknowledge that school isn't their whole life! With so much happening in the lives of our students it is unfair to expect that students first priority is school all of the time.

In my opinion the structure was stressed to ensure we knew the basics before moving on to less structured writing.

#TCH296 Q5: Over the next couple of weeks I hope to become an active member in my classrooms community and hope I can pick up on dynamics throughout the classroom that can help us plan an AMAZING lesson for our students!!!

#TCH296 Q4: On thing that sticks with me till this day is the song that my 5th grade teacher taught us when we were learning rock formations. This is something I would love to teach my students as well.

#TCH296 Q3: As a learner lectures was my least favorite form of instruction. Never knowing if my notes would be helpful for assignments. Taking an immersive approach allows students to develop the knowledge of the content but also skills they can use outside of the classroom.

#TCH296 Q2: In clinical we have already stared to form relationships with the students by introducing ourselves and giving the students a survey about themselves to better get to know them. We have also started forming trust by helping and working with them from the start.

#TCH296 Q1: I am unlearning the ‘teacher as a hero’ narrative by creating stronger bonds and stronger trust with my students. I also remind myself that is it alright for me as a teacher to not know all of the answers and that it is productive to set boundaries and take breaks.
