@otonanoikenga Because the yen is cheap, low class people are attracted to Japan. If I saw this in Australia I would for forcefully tell them to put their dirty feet down. This is not acceptable behaviour in the West, they're just rude scumbags taking advantage of Japanese shyness/politeness.

@PaprikaGirl_JP @dcbehrens Touch wood* I've never been bitten. I killed a snake that was fighting with a kitten, inside my house. This is technically illegal but I couldn't be sure if it was an immature brown or a harmless tree snake and I wasn't taking chances. Protecting kitten overrode the law.

@dcbehrens @PaprikaGirl_JP Born in Brisbane, live in Japan. Snakes *mostly shy away from people but I have been chased, from a distance. When I was a kid I had snakes strike at me before I even knew they were there, no provocation. Brown snakes are psycho. Preferring Japanese snakes these days.

@martinicancer @callistoroll Japan certainly doesn't have a shortage in the retirement age demographic. Japan is so unique and desirable specifically because it only offers visas that demand work and net contribution. That sets it apart from most western nations.

I had my eye on this lucky "tawara" rice bale shaped "jubako", so it was fun to buy it on a whim today.
it is for sharing food on celebratory occasions.
This fabulous little shop in Atami is called "Vivid" and it is close to the beach and the Ginza, central street.

We forgot to buy a gift for our hosts in Hokkaido and it is better to choose something regional. Luckily you can buy #akaiboshi cookies at the airport. These premium cookies are made a few kms from our house. Their "kukkia" biscuits also available at Costco in Australia! 🦘
