I had a very good and productive exchange with members of the #EU’s Working Party dealing with @UN Affairs, Chaired by Rafael Osorio of the @eu_eeas.

The discussion covered the #UN80 reform process, the shifting global landscape and how we can position @UNODC to remain fit for purpose, be more agile, more effective, and better positioned to deliver where it matters most.

I welcome the strong affirmation for collective responsibility, multilateralism, and strong partnerships to ensure a safer, more secure and prosperous world.

Across our mandate, I see opportunities for closer cooperation and partnership between UNODC and the EU, and look forward to capitalizing on a relationship that is forged on a similar DNA to that of the United Nations.

Today, I engaged with Ambassadors from the Western European, North American and Oceania Group. These regions have long stood as champions of multilateralism, the rule of law and @UNODC.

Grateful to Ambassador Debora Lepre of Italy for chairing the Group and for her leadership in guiding a most productive exchange.

We reflected on a rapidly shifting threat landscape, from increasingly networked illicit production, to persistent drug markets, evolving forms of technology-enabled and transnational organized crime. We also explored the ongoing UN reform processes, and how to position and prepare UNODC and Vienna into the future.

Against this backdrop, we explored how UNODC must adapt, through a clearer strategic direction, stronger partnerships, and as a more agile and sustainable organization equipped to stay fit for purpose in a changing world.

I look forward to continued engagement with the WEOG family.
