🚨 BREAKING:
Carney: "Our old relationship with the United States, based on ever-increasing integration, is over. These are tragedies, but they're also our new reality. We've moved past the shock of American betrayal, but we must not forget the lessons learned. We have to take care of ourselves, and above all, we have to take care of each other."
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

Former Canada Prime Minister Jean Chrétien: "I have message for American friends...never mistake our generosity for weakness. Never mistake our tolerance for lack of determination. And never, never mistake our kindness for softness...We bow to no one."
I had the honor of joining Rick Rubin on his podcast, Tetragrammaton. I’m grateful for the space to reflect and share. Rick is a creative guru for me. Episode is out now on Spotify, Apple, and YouTube.
Tim Robbins says Clint Eastwood shot Mystic River with one take per setup and had the cast out by 2 PM every day
"There's not a lot of bells and whistles on the set. There's no, 'Rolling!' and, 'Action!' It's all just very quiet, very zen-like from the moment you walk on the set"
"And you also know, as Clint has told you, 'We're not gonna do a lot of takes. We're gonna do one take of each setup'"
"That's what you get. You get one shot at each setup. That means you have three chances of playing the scene, one in the wide, one in the mid, and one in the tight. That's it, and personally, I did a second take on maybe two setups"
"That's the discipline going in. And so the night before, as actors, we're rehearsing. We're ready. We're getting ready. We know every word perfectly"
"We're not gonna go to the set and say, 'Hey, Clint, I think about this. What about if this happened?' That never happened"
"So we were in at 9 AM and out by 2 PM every day. It was beautiful. It was efficient"
These things are so much fun to make. Something that previs allows is the endless exploration of different ways to place and cut the camera. Tons of creative decisions for just a small sequence.

This is the exact moment that Mission Impossible 2 goes from a Mid Movie to an absolute Masterclass of Late 90s/Early 2000s action filmmaking. The score, the performances, the build up. It’s all so “extra” and I love it!!!!
Exercise scene. Staging, framing, camera movement, lighting, and editing.
The focus here was entirely on camera, narrative, anim-block, and pre-light. Least effort possible elsewhere, so I could spend my time exploring lenses, camera placement, and story.
My layout showreel from The Garfield Movie (2024) is out of the oven!
Worked on the camera dept from start to finish, cinematography, staging, storytelling, all the lasagna. 🐾🍝

“I’m fed up with the discussion [of film vs. digital]. The discussion has brought such harm to what’s happening in the film industry. People always want to polarize choices and simplify choices… in the end anybody should shoot on whatever they want to shoot on...
