@AlaskanKate My kids keep begging to go on one when the commercials come on, but I tell them it's basically just an efficient way to continue the life cycles of stomach viruses. The only kind I'd ever consider (sans kids) are those European river where you're spending more time off the boat.

The solution to wastefulness, as I've gleaned from the comments, appears to be threefold: wash your stuff, don't buy new when things aren't broken yet, and get what you can from the 20th century before planned obsolescence.

@TransiTorri @ErinInTheMorn I've heard the argument that they don't want trans people to die (although some groups are explicit that they do want this), just behave as if they identify with the gender they were assigned at birth, but this completely glosses over the fact that that will lose lives too.

@NateWorthington Whereas I was always more introverted but felt like I had to put on an extrovert mask in church settings, either for the sake of fellowship or to show God's love. Now I feel way less guilt about not being in the mood to talk to certain people. Even Jesus needed time to himself.

@goteamcarr I've also heard the metaphor that your life is a jar and your grief is a stone. People might assume the stone gets smaller over time, but really your jar just gets bigger as you adapt to life with that grief. Sending thoughts your way at this difficult time.

@ashhermsmeier The church in particular has a knack for blaming victims and sympathizing with abusers. That compounds the trauma in a very specific way.

@fuckyouiquit @Rudborne At my last job, if you were on call at home or wherever, you got a very low hourly rate, but if you got called in, you were getting time and a half.
