Being an elected official comes with praise that can become addictive and blur your sense of purpose. It’s understandable human behavior, but we need leaders who are willing to stand up and do the right thing even if it costs them their job. That’s what public service is supposed to be about. It’s what we should all be demanding from our elected officials today.
NEW: GOP Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who invited Sikh Giani Singh to deliver the House prayer, pushes back on Rep. Mary Miller saying he should have "never been allowed" to do so.
"Part of being American is respecting other people's faiths," he told @axios https://t.co/bgyB1Ntxcy
Rep. Mary Miller’s words today following a prayer led by Giani Singh from the Gurdwara South Jersey Sikh Society are deeply un-American.
This country was founded on freedom of religion. It is a cornerstone of our democracy and to have a Member of Congress so openly attack our First amendment is unacceptable, irresponsible, and bigoted.
RFK Jr. has peddled and profited off of dangerous conspiracy theories and half truths.
He is unqualified to lead HHS. He is unqualified to be in charge our country's health.
I am voting NO for his nomination.
Apparently I’m not authorized to add community note, but I think it should be noted that a touchdown is impossible because the ball has to cross an infinite number of discrete points. The Eagles will always be half the distance to the goal. #ZenosParadox
Shawn Hochuli threatened to invoke an NFL rule that allows a referee to award a touchdown for a palpably unfair act as the Commanders repeatedly jumped offside. https://t.co/6XSWN9ZieJ
If Carson beck is seriously injured Georgia is now out of the college football playoffs because we don’t know if the backup qb is good . That’s how this works right ? Or was that Just for Florida state last year
I’ve listened and thought a lot about the Hunter Biden pardon. It was the wrong thing to do.
I sympathize with a father who rightly believes his son has been targeted by a politically motivated prosecution. And many prosecutors – most are elected – have political motives. But prosecutors don’t adjudicate guilt – juries do, beyond a reasonable doubt, according to the law, and subject to appeal. Hunter Biden made his mistakes, and he should have faced his consequences, with all the many protections our system provides.
We elected Joe Biden to put the country and the rule of law ahead of himself and his family. When we rightly criticize Trump for pardoning Stone, Bannon, Flynn, Kushner, and his Jan 6 rioters, Republicans will now just reply that Biden pardoned Hunter. This is how the fragile norms that support our nation of laws change. The shoes are on both feet.
But listen up, Senators: If you don’t like presidential policies that put family and political cronies over country, you have the power to uphold the standard of law Americans have a right to expect. You may feel that Biden politized the justice system. Trump has explicitly said he will use that system to attack his political enemies. Don’t approve appointees for Attorney General and the FBI who will allow that to happen. Please keep our rule of law the envy of the world.
I’m just going to leave this gem of an interview here to celebrate Billy Long President Elect Trump’s pick to lead the IRS. https://t.co/g8O3NmkM3X #BillyLong#whogotthesweater
Let’s be clear: This is illegal and unconstitutional. The American people had voted. The courts had ruled. The Electoral College had met and voted. The Governor in every state had certified the results and sent a legal slate of electors to the Congress to be counted. The Vice President has no constitutional authority to tell states to submit alternative slates of electors because his candidate lost. That is tyranny. Our institutions held on Jan 6 because Mike Pence refused to violate his oath to the Constitution. Trump picked JD Vance because Vance will do whatever Trump wants, including violating the Constitution. They are both far too dangerous to serve. It’s our duty to stop them.
In his 17-month stint as UF president, Ben Sasse more than tripled his office’s spending, directing millions in university funds into secretive consulting contracts and high-paying positions for his GOP allies.

Folks, calls to violence threaten our democracy’s foundation.
You can’t love your country only when you win.
Let’s solve our problems with ballots and elect @KamalaHarris as the next President of the United States of America.
Joe Biden has earned his place among the best and most consequential presidents in American history.
I am so proud to serve under his leadership, and thankful for his unwavering focus on what is best for our country.
