Thrilled to announce my first first-author paper was published today! 🌊✨ @sallen_sada and I explored the Pacific origins (and seasonal and interannual variability) of Salish Sea inflow: https://t.co/zyf7eW9fZl #Oceanography#PhDLife#Lagrangian 1/4
I've had bluesky for a few months but am going to fully switch to it now🦋check me out at @bbeutel.bsky.social !.. but beware of incoming "catch-up" posts (turns out maintaining two socials is above me)
So, what does the re-election of Donald Trump mean for climate change?
We can make some educated guesses based on his first term, his campaign, and the expressed wishes of his allies.
A few of my thoughts as a thread. 🧵
learned about the *official* #GDB song today and it has both taught me new commands AND actually made me happier about #debugging (note: its important to sing it for the magic of the song to take effect)

Join the @UBCeoas CEC on Sept 24th, to learn about integrating #EnvironmentalJustice content into the #EarthSciences 🌎🌱
We'll discuss why this integration is crucial, review the teaching guide we made to simplify the process, and practice building this content together 🧑🏫
I love when a reporter burrows in to surface things that make your head explode. @lisalsong on how the plastics industry is campaigning to slap “recyclable” on things that actually aren’t…here’s the game plan: https://t.co/eTszDNp8x6
Last fall, @SWSocean and I led students at @scienceworldca in building sub-surface floats. We had fun prototyping and were floored by the amazing discussion 👩🔬👨💻
Linked is our paper on reproducing this activity in a classroom (and why we think you should)

Excited (and intimidated) to be part of a panel tonight with @WCM_Botany and UBC iGEM on making research spaces more welcoming to LGBTQIA2S+ folks (spoiler: I think that increased visibility through webinars like this one are a huge part of the answer)

Winter was a lot more variable – both day to day and between years. South shelf and Columbia River water dominated, but are poorly correlated. Despite weaker inflow in the winter, our findings suggest that winter dynamics are a significant driver of interannual variability. 3/4
If you're in Vancouver on Monday, I recommend this wild hybrid music / climate solutions event at the Vogue. The music being performed is inspired by metals needed for the energy transition. Proceeds go to Indigenous student scholarships. https://t.co/PbMVZJSUTP #admitone#event
Last week was the last class for @UBCgeog’s first cohort of the certificate in climate studies and action and the students made everyone (including the teaching team 🥹🥹🥹) TINY GRADUATION CAPS AND DIPLOMAS
