The PUCT & ERCOT issued a conservation call & have, in contrast to Sunday night, acknowledged that some of the problems are caused by coal & gas plants: "The number of forced outages in thermal generation exceeds ERCOT forecasts." They showed >13GW of coal & gas offline. #txlege
Welcome Bob Frenzel to his new job as CEO of @Xcelenergy! Right now, instead of going all in with affordable clean energy, @xcelenergy proposes to convert an Amarillo coal plant that is polluting the community to gas. Let's hope new leadership means clearer thinking!
Hearing about @cpsenergy efficiency programs. The STEP program was groundbreaking! I share it with colleagues across the country. Lets get even more done to keep folks safer in their homes and lower bills with new technology and even better programs in the next phase of STEP!
Listening to @cpsenergy leadership again tonight in the tele-townhall talking about wanting to have a conversation about retiring the Spruce coal plant. We've been having this conversation for YEARS. When is the right time to actually make a decision and implement a plan?
Again @cpsenergy, that 'resource plan' has so much info redacted, and so much data and analysis missing, that is impossible to really engage with the report. There are many models for public participation to look to- lets find one that works and get to work together!
@ryan_serpico In spirit of using #data to pull people out of #poverty, we should ask why we allow @cpsenergy to charge some folks 20% of their take-home pay for electricity and most others 4%. (Dark purple, near westside.) Energy burden is real.
We've been fighting to close our Spruce Coal plant since 2017 as a coalition. In January, we saw @cpsenergy had a plan to do just that in 2027/2028. But how will they replace the coal power? Gas? Clean energy y storage? Next Monday's board meeting should tell us a lot.
Don’t let ‘em twist it.
During the 2021 Winter Storm, natural gas and coal power plants significantly underperformed while renewable energy sources exceeded expectations.

Love hearing the truth from @cohan_ds just now on how coal plants pollute and kill people all year long but weren't there to help keep the heat on. @APowerAlliance@cnsrvtxns4nrg
Good news! French company Engie drops Rio Grande LNG fracked gas export deal after the French government raised pollution concerns. Read more: https://t.co/lD7Xh9y8vQ #StopRioGrandeLNG#NoLNGInRGV
If the NHC forecast verifies, #Laura would the strongest hurricane on record for that part of NW Gulf Coast. Words fail me at a time like this- simply put, it would change the course of the landfall area much like Katrina did. Gut-wrenching
"Public Service" should be the backbone of @cpsenergy (City Public Service). What does that mean to you? How could a reimagined @cpsenergy be of service to San Antonio families?
Hearing from local activist and retired pharmacist, Russell Seal, about the importance of including a reinvestment in schools (ventilations, efficiency, etc) as part of the CARES Act funding and FlexSTEP to protect the health of school kids.
What else can be done by expanding the scope of FlexSTEP? How can this program be expanded into an expression of the compassion and values of San Antonio?
Now hearing from @gharman about the some resistance from the @cpsenergy leadership to energy efficiency programs because they don't pull more money from ratepayers. Thankfully, the FlexSTEP is moving forward- and it needs to be stronger than ever.
Greg asks why we aren't digging deeper into @cpsenergy history of disconnections who can't pay their bills? How will this play out in the wake of COVID related evictions?
Another WOW! Asthma related hospitalizations are reduced with more energy efficient homes. @cpsenergy policies to widen the scope of energy efficiency programs in San Antonio will have real benefits to improve public health.
Dr. Adelita Cantu is the next speaker today! https://t.co/AQRe3iaKS6
She's focusing on public health and why it's important to move away from fossil fuels in San Antonio!
Weatherization is a key solution to solving several climate justice issues relate to fossil fuels. Better weatherization in homes=less need to burn fossil fuels AND improves air quality within their homes.
