Fascinating piece from @nataliesurely.
I'm struck once again by how the shadow of mind-body dualism hangs heavily over the idea that a problem whose roots are in the brain is somehow "less real" than one emanating from elsewhere.

Focus is absolutely key to recovery. Look for tiny green shoots of recovery and make the brain notice you are safe to heal. X #longcovid#cfs#recovery#thrive#resettothrive https://t.co/Ep8kbQNtZw
The cooling effect of a single, young street tree is the same as 5 room-sized air conditioners operating 20 hours/day.
If every London borough had delivered the 50% increase in street trees that I did as a Hackney Cllr, we may have prevented the U.K’s first 40C+ heatwave.
I had so many years of not being able to ride my bike that it makes me feel like a child again when I go out on mine now. I stand up every time I whizz down a hill - best feeling in the world!🚴♀️
This was where I ended up last night #bikelife#mtb

Last weekend walking on Hastings beach we discovered this amazing submerged boat sculpture by artist Leigh Dyer. Having spent nearly a decade housebound with FND to now be recovering & able to go away & walk on the beach like this still feels really special.

New for 2022 our ‘mini Bluebell Walk’ offers a beautiful new route of 2.5 miles without stiles for little legs or those who feel less able to complete the full 6 mile walk.
This route also takes in part of the beautiful Bluebell Walk across the North Downs.
LAKE DISTRICT, UK - Miles Without Stiles is a collection of 50 graded routes across the National Park that are suitable for wheelchair users. Check out the link for route and grading system details.

Looking for a Miles without Stiles walk in the Dales above Kettlewell. Head up to Top Mere, down to Stabotton and return along the flanks of Birks.
Lovely....and empty. One couple in 3 hours.

If you are hiking in a group and waiting for slower people to catch up, don't start walking again when they do catch up, because then you got a rest and they didn't.
I think about this tip a lot, in many different contexts.
Always a problem - in order to get what we need we have to ‘complain’ It takes its toll as often however gently we raise the issues we get an aggressive or rude defensiveness in return. So a double whammy 🙁
Fellow disabled activists, how do you manage criticising something you really love? I fear I’m on the brink of losing another favourite theatre show because I dared to challenge something about their access. I want to fight, but I don’t want to lose the show.
I love this time of year too with the promise of opportunities to get out into nature and not have to get togged up with multiple coats , covers and heat pads which makes getting out so tiring !
I feel so impatient for spring to get here so I can get out on some proper walks again - this was taken last May on Catbells. Hiking was one of the things I missed most when I was ill. It is one of my greatest passions now

The clue is in the name.
It’s 2022 and it’s not “FHD” (formerly hysteria disorder) or
“AIYHD” (all in your head disorder) or
“CD” (conversion disorder)
BUT:
FND (functional neurological disorder)

Let’s show some respect for this painful, disabling condition!
Great to be able to enjoy this as we recover but we need access to these places and the healing power of nature at the start of our healing,as wheelchair users
All terrain wheelchairs eg Boma 7.5 from @EqualAdventure are unaffordable for most. We need more hire options!
I took this photograph 3 years ago, right at the beginning of my attempts to rebuild my fitness. I used to go down this track in my wheelchair but could never get this far because of the rougher terrain
‘Disabled’ means prevented from functioning
Opposite is ‘enabled’ eg
“iPhone 12 tips: 10 features you should enable and disable right away”
When we disable a feature we don’t say it’s a ‘phone with disabilities’
My phone is still a phone when I disable features
