The Nahor provides dense canopy cover and perfect for shelter. For the next few days the parents will be busy feeding the chick, guarding and taking him/her around the forested landscape.

A Brown hornbill chick trying to break free from the nest, after being born in a state of incarceration. The chick hesitant initially but finally took a leap of faith and its first flight. Flew off to a nearby Mesua ferrea (Nahor) tree, under the watchful eyes of his/her father.

Hornbills are among few birds believed to be monogamous. Sharing a study on the cooperatively breeding White-throated Brown Hornbill. Through an act of cooperation, juvenile and sub-adult birds aid the breeding male in food provisioning and act as sentinels to protect nests.

Forest departmental programmes, contractors and alike getting involved with rewilding in Assam should be mindful and take serious scientific measures while implementing such programmes!
