Makes me think about this passage:
Romans 1:21โ25
[21] For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. [22] Claiming to be wise, they became fools, [23] and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
[24] Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, [25] because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. (ESV)
@directdemocrac7@GeraldPescado@Tsar_Martyr I feel like the irrationality comes from either ignorance or insecurities.
Are you talking about the uncaused first mover and that it requires a will and intellect?
Curious to know what dogmas you think are in the way if you feel like you have the time.
@directdemocrac7@GeraldPescado@Tsar_Martyr None taken, understand where it's coming from. I was just surprised how many people responded to such a basic statement saying that you can't prove God's absence ๐คท
Is it a bad translation or what's is the pushback?
Another aspect is that God is complete in Himself, He doesn't strictly need us in any way. I think you are right that He did create us for His glory, that's kind of evident. But also to reflect His image and to care for His creation and probably more.
The wrath is reserved for those that hurt His children and I wouldn't call His judgement vengeance, He is the rule maker, the authority.
I don't think there's something completely wrong with the intellectual analysis that viewing things from a lens of "for His glory" but I think you use it in a way that shows a heart of rebellion? I don't like authority in general, but a just and righteous authority I don't have any issue with, that's actually the only thing that enables us to live our life in relative peace right now. As authority gets corrupted the less we can live our lives in peace.
1) I think Jesus's primary motivation is probably to obey the Father, I think we can agree on that.
2) Again I think we agree, if He hadn't it would have been catastrophic for us but he did His duty as a servant to the Father
But consider why the Father sent Jesus:
โFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 (ESV)
Obviously for our sake. So that those who believe in Jesus should not perish. With your framework of reading the scripture I understand that I'll have to add more, consider this verse for example:
2 Peter 3:9
[9] The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (ESV)
The devil wants to isolate you so he can weaken your faith. We were never meant to fight the battles of life all on our own.
Stay connected to a local church and walk in community, saints.
@AMilitantAgnost@Tsar_Martyr But without it it's difficult to be an honest atheist according to the reasoning that it's impossible to prove God's absence ๐
@DW2025X@5SolasMissy Is it the pinned comment one on what you call the Glory imperative? If so I read it but it's a bit too much to take in in one go to properly digest it but I'll think about it

I can see your honesty and that's why I followed you.
After reading the Bible the overall message is encouraging imo and I don't see a God that is just arbitrarily swirling a finger in his navel and proclaiming judgements randomly. I see Him making covenants and making promises and then keeping them. We rebel and question Him. He deals with us according to the rules he set and shows us his character as Holy and righteous. Something like that
