Lagos To Begin 24-Hour Power Future in Bold Energy Shift

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), plans to begin a pilot rollout of its 24/7 electricity franchise zones by October 2026.
The initiative, powered by the Lagos State Electricity Law, will test out independent, localized power distribution in select areas.

In the rollout, private operators will take over distribution in designated communities, completely bypassing the national grid to provide continuous 24/7 electricity.

Communities and zones will need to meet specific technical, infrastructure, and payment requirements. To prepare for this market autonomy, Lagos has signed Power Purchase Agreements and issued 14 licenses to off-grid and embedded power operators.

Also, an AI-driven metering program, known as the "Electric Eye of Lagos," is planned to support these zones.
