Thirty years ago, a group of lawyers did not just imagine a society — they built a standard.
A bar that would stand for ethics, independence, professional integrity, and rule of law across East Africa.
Today at #EALS30, we return to the beginning — to the voices that wrote the first chapter.
Founders’ Panel & Launch of the EALS 30th Anniversary Handbook with pioneers who shaped our regional identity and professional spine:
* Paul Matheri Wamae, SC
* Dr. Harriet Diana Musoke, SC
* John Mary Mugisha, SC
* Prof. Fredrick Edward Ssempebwa, SC
* George Kegoro
From them came principles still binding us today —
independence of the bar, integrity as a duty, accountability as culture, and the rule of law as destiny.
From them came a vision of a united profession, crossing borders and legal traditions to strengthen justice in East Africa. And from them comes the Handbook we launch today — a record of memory, a blueprint for the next generation, and a reminder that legacy is responsibility.
This is the story of where we began.
And the foundation upon which we rise.
