Are you kidding me @NurseStandard ? I know you took the article down, but this is inexcusable. Nurses with lived experience of mental illness are the backbone of MH services. And the pressures on all nurses these days cause many of us to develop MH issues. Stigmatising rubbish

The autistic urge to explain everything fully, so nobody has gaps in their knowledge and needs to ask questions.

The neurotypical urge to explain things briefly - not fully - so others have to ask you questions about it and you can connect over long, reciprocal conversations.

3. Being stuck in a sensory overwhelming situation

When I say the system needs to be uprooted and rebuilt molecule by molecule, I mean it.

Disabled people deserve to thrive.
Deserve security and stability.
Deserve accommodations.
Deserve a satisfying life.

Over 80% of nurses who voted, voted to strike. 122,008 nurses. But because under 50% of eligible nurses took part in the vote, we can't strike. This is due to the new laws on strike action, brought in by a government the public didn't elect. And we say we're a democracy?

@mightbeautistic @themichelely For me ADHD adds a layer: I first have to tidy the whole room but any/all of the items in the room might spark a hours-long special interest. This isn't really a metaphor for me, it happens lots! Strengths-based framing: with a day to tidy a room I can reorganise everything in it

@neuroteachers "I didn't know autistic people could work in that kind of job" and "everyone struggles with that" and "no one likes hotdesking" (in response to occ health recommendation for set desk). And such surprised reactions when I tell colleagues I'm masking/in pain/can't always speak/etc

@neuroteachers Yes absolutely, I never use Condition or Disorder to describe my or anyone's neurodivergences. It's hard to separate 'neurodevelopmental' from 'condition' though

@neuroteachers I take your point, I'm coming from a medical viewpoint trying to advocate for ND people within healthcare so the medical language helps me, but I can see that that's not useful elsewhere. Certainly wouldn't suggest using 'conditions/disorders' which I hear daily

@neuroteachers But I do also use 'neurodivergent' and 'neurotypical', there's nothing wrong with those terms

@neuroteachers I also like 'neurodevelopmental difference' as its more specific than 'neurodivergence', which includes acquired brain injury, mental illness etc. And I like 'predominant neurotype' (PNT) because actually most people aren't 'NT' if you include the whole umbrella

@bebe__phoebe I like 'speech loss'! Have been frustrated before by 'situational mutism' as an alternative to 'selective' because its not the situation that dictates my ability to speak/text/process other's language, it's every part of my internal & external conditions
