@StuntmanStu@barrhaven_ford A Ford Lightning for the not-for-profit where I volunteer so that we would have a truck to do runs to the lumber store to get plywood for the pontoon boats that we restore for charity camps. #OttawaMakersShed
@StuntmanStu Visit the Ottawa Maker’s Shed. Engineers, welders, cabinet makers, naval architects, aviation techs and machinists - all people who know how to do useful stuff. Refit a 28 foot boat, laser cut CNC to make radio telescopes and more That is just the 1st 6 months of this year.
The elimination of the de minimus rule on imports to the US is hurting a number of businesses. A few notes: Canada had a $20 de minimus threshold but as part of CUSMA negotiations increased it to $150.
The $800 threshold was unique.
Should Canada reduce its US threshold?
@charise_lee History repeats itself, in the 1930's Henry Ford made a deal with the USSR to build a factory in Russia. Ultimately by 1936 the workers were abandoned by Ford and many were imprisoned or executed in purges.
@t7_linda The police say that there are other details. Then they should be more transparent. They have a duty to Mr McDonald to disclose everything. They should to the public as well. For now their actions are bringing the justice system into disrepute.
@HistoricaCanada I have been there many times. The first few with my father who was a WWII veteran and then Canadian Defence Attaché in Paris. I was astounded that anyone would attempt a raid/landing at such a location. It was an amphitheater of death.
@carolemacneil We have stopped being a country that believes in Peace Order and Good Government. The rule of law is ignored.
Look at the convoy and the attack on a Muslim woman on the bus in Kanata or the CUPE leaders ignoring the CIRB order.
It is all about individual needs.
@tylermeredith@SkinnerLyle I would expect them to seek judicial review of the decision. That is their right, defying the CIRB is not. We do not simply tear up tribunal orders. The minster’s referral to the CIRB was well drafted. JR will not be easy, hence the puerile actions of the union leaders.
@DimitrisSoudas AC is likely on the phone with the regional office of the CIRB seeking an order against CUPE and its members that this is an illegal strike. The order will be issued and failure to comply will result in fines.
@ConsumerSOS@tylermeredith Easy to say, but CUPE’s legal counsel will advise against that. It will be declared an illegal strike hence fines. Better option is for CUPE to fight to matter in court.
@DimitrisSoudas The union sees these as the ideal time to put the most pressure on the employer. However the issue is that unlike unions like the Teamsters the leadership and strategists at the union do not understand that they are now dealing with an organization that is a business.
@RodKahx CUPE has mis-judged the situation. CUPE is a union of government employees. AC is not government. Customers have a choice and they will leave AC. CUPE members will be laid off. AC met part way on pay for unpaid work. Collective bargaining is incremental over many rounds.
