The third panel is almost entirely my own invention. What I was trying to express in this piece was how we absorb the things we love (like artwork, stories, and songs) and as they become part of us we make them our own in our small ways. Weaving them into ourselves as we grow.

When I was a kid I first picked up @garthnix Sabriel because I was enchanted by the portrait of a young woman on the cover. Now, years later, the Abhorsen trilogy remain some of my favourite books of all time. I (digitally) painted this piece reflecting on this long lasting love.

The first panel attempts to be a near exact reproduction of the orginal cover artwork for Sabriel by the incomparable Leo and Diane Dillon. The second largely follows in the compositional footsteps of the cover for Lirael but starts to take on more of my personal style.
