@kehaniw1 Each of these are viable ideas that would be perfect for different stages of learning. Perhaps there is a way to fuse some of them together! The students could make a mini gardening show for their class and teach other students about specific Australian flowers that attract bees!
@JockThompson3 What a great idea! From my experience in schools, many students find Minecraft to be a fun & engaging past time. To use the game in a way that's both entertaining & educational, this would be super beneficial. Win win! Thanks for sharing.
@MissHickson Absolutely! I particularly love the idea of memory cafes in schools. Where community members & students can share stories about their experiences and the local area. Such a great way to bring people together & to strengthen community relationships in a meaningful way.
@MrCollins94 I feel the same way. Even though my main focus has been #localhistory, by collaborating with other uni students & professionals I have gained valuable insight into other key learning areas & global perspectives. Very good encouragement indeed!
@FormbyEthan I agree 100%, I had a negative preconception about twitter before starting this course. Now my tune has changed, and I will likely use twitter to collaborate, collect resources & expand my professional understanding for many years to come.
@ESHarvey13 And to think that there were over 250 indigenous Australian languages before European settlement. Today it is said that "90% are considered endangered" making it very important to raise awareness & to support their preservation & documentation. https://t.co/bgCbjhrQB2
Not only has EDUC4750 pushed me to find teaching ideas for my unit plan, it has also inspired me to research & collect valuable resources that will assist me throughout my teaching career. Developing my own #21stcenturyskills in order to teach them more effectively! #UoNTeach
@NGlohe Such a great hands on activity with a very positive focus! I've found lots of other valuable lesson ideas on @TeachStarter while on previous pracs. Would definitely consider using this one on internship. Thanks for sharing!
Using twitter has enabled me to communicate & collaborate ideas surrounding #localhistory within an online educational community. Testing me to expand my professional growth! It’s shown me that social media can be an extremely powerful educational tool (Crockett, 2016) #UoNTeach
Such a great TED talk that highlights the importance of essential #21stcenturyskills (Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking & Creativity). Thanks for sharing @AAuld6. https://t.co/Qcl33Xdco9
How, and why, should we focus on the 4 C's (Collaboration. Communication. Critical thinking, Creativity) in the classroom? #UONTeach#21stCenturyLearning

While exploring #localhistory, it has been fascinating to learn more about my local Aboriginal community. The Wonnarua people have such a deep & interesting past. Using strategies I have learnt, I aim to integrate their culture & perspectives into my future classroom. #UoNteach
I’ve decided that in order to teach something effectively, it’s vital that the one educating is passionate about the things they're saying. If I wish to inspire students to investigate their surroundings, it’s first up to me to journey into the heart of my own values #UoNTeach
@tstewart973 While it’s important to commemorate the sacrifices made by fallen soldiers, it’s equally important to acknowledge & honour those who are currently serving or have served. What better way than to send a letter of gratitude!

A great teaching strategy for analysing primary sources.
Using the 4 C’s (Concentration, connection, context & conclusion) - students visit places based on historical items & make authentic links with their own #localhistory. #UoNTeach

@Lindle98192700 Such a scary thought! Really reinforces the idea that schools should be actively reaching out & collaborating with their local indigenous community to teach, learn & preserve these irreplaceable languages. The involvement of younger generations is definitely key!
@Lindle98192700 Some great resources here! Thanks for sharing. It could be as simple as finding suitable literature for English lessons or choosing inclusive themes for group activities. It’s up to us to create a safe environment where students can have open discussions about sensitive topics.
@russell_uon As a resident of the Maitland area, this is really nice to see! There are so many incredible buildings that need preserving, for instance, Caroline Chisholm cottage which dates back to the 1830s! Nice to know that the council are actively helping the cause. Thanks for sharing!
Many schools are rich in history! Here's an example of one that has created a Heritage Trail where visitors can observe historical artifacts & share stories with the students. Have you seen a school promote and preserve history in a similar way? #UoNTeach https://t.co/Wqaq4R7T7c
@tstewart973 This reinforces the idea of Bloom’s Taxonomy and how higher order thinking skills are incredibly beneficial to students. By allowing them to express and explore their own creativity, this can help develop their ability to problem-solve & think critically. Thanks for sharing!
