Sholto Douglas (Anthropic) predicted that by the end of 2025, 100% of code at Anthropic would be written by AI.

Even a few months ago, this sounded far-fetched. People laughed it off.

Then Anthropic released Claude Cowork this week. The tool itself was 100% built inside Claude Code. No human-written code.

Was he right, no. But he was not that far of either.

Once again, seemingly small changes in scale unlock capabilities that look like step-functions from the outside. What seemed absurd in October is shipping as product in January.
We keep underestimating this pattern. Every time.

Douglas also say 2026 is when all other knowledge work gets the same treatment.

His words: "The other forms of knowledge work are going to experience what software engineers are feeling right now—they went from typing most of their lines of code at the beginning of the year to typing barely any of them at the end."

Will this come true in 2026? Probably not, work involves far more than pure output. It's coordination, relationships, presence. But the cognitive part? Don't be surprised if AI handles most of that sooner than you expect. Maybe already in 2026.
