@chelle_yesudas It is the obligation of the UNHCR to protect Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani and his family when he face ongoing threats to security and life following his legitimate work as a human rights defender. Do you think the Malaysian government will stop the hate campaign?

Suhakam has expressed concern over discriminatory rhetoric and online attacks directed at the Rohingya community in Malaysia, particularly during the recent Eid al-Adha period.
"Such expressions not only undermine the dignity of an already vulnerable community but also erode the values of compassion, empathy, and respect that are fundamental to Malaysian society," it said.

CHANGE DOT ORG must urgently remove Malaysia’s anti-Rohingya petition.
I have written to Change dot org asking them to urgently remove the petition calling for the “removal” of #Rohingya from #Malaysia, now with over 416,000 signatures. This petition targets a stateless refugee community and helps turn xenophobia into a mass, shareable campaign.
Change dot org cannot pretend to be a passive noticeboard. Its platform gives the petition visibility, legitimacy, momentum and a public signature count that can be weaponised against Rohingya.
At a time of rising online hostility, and disturbing reports of possible vigilante mobilisation, responsible platforms must assess foreseeable harm before real-world violence occurs. Remove the petition.
I have also alerted Change dot org to serious, unverified reports of possible vigilante mobilisation against Rohingya traders. That risk environment makes platform responsibility even more urgent.
Ten years since Muhammad Ali's passing, a painting he made himself of UNHQ symbolizes his lasting legacy and vision for peace.
@AminaJMohammed reflects on the painting & the powerful letter he gave the UN:
“Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on Earth.” 🌏️
My second dispatch from Langkawi was to understand the push factor that is drawing refugees across maritime borders to seek shelter and safety elsewhere. Many experience cramped voyages on wooden boats with no food and water; resorting to drinking seawater to survive.
It's shocking that these online & offline threats are again escalating against the #Rohingya in #Malaysia. PM @anwaribrahim needs to act to ensure these refugees are protected!
More than 380,000 people have now signed a petition calling for the “removal” of Rohingya from Malaysia. This is mass racism dressed up as civic action. The petition shows a staggering ignorance of what Rohingya have endured / genocide, statelessness, village burnings, apartheid conditions in Myanmar, trafficking routes, sea pushbacks, detention, and the mass graves of Wang Kelian.
To demand “removal” without asking where people can safely go is a failure of basic humanity. It is cruelty with a signature count. It turns survivors of persecution into a public nuisance and pretends that expulsion is a solution.
@liberationxxx also urged media organisations to exercise greater responsibility when reporting on refugee-related issues, warning that sensationalised coverage could amplify prejudice and misinformation.
MEDIA PRACTITIONERS TAKE NOTE: You don't deal with the aftermath of your nasty reports demonizing Refugees. We do on a daily basis!
