Leadership Isn’t a Speech.
It’s a Skill That Gets Practiced.
Thank you @NM_StallionFB for trusting the Blueprint Follow Me Leadership Academy.
What you’re seeing here is a real page from the curriculum—designed for captains & leaders to teach their peers, spark conversation, & build trust inside the locker room.
This isn’t a lecture. It’s leaders standing up, asking questions, and driving the culture forward.
Proud to partner @tkick6 & with programs that are intentional about developing leaders, not just players.

This made me smile so I had to share…
I’m doing a Follow Me customization for a 6-man program in West Texas — the Happy Cowboys. One of the pictures hc @coach_perryman sent included this sign that said:
“You Ain’t No Cowboy.”
So I texted him: “Coach… I’ve gotta know the story behind this sign.”
His response was gold:
“Haha that’s our discipline dice poster. If a player gets detention or any other infraction, he rolls two dice. We always have a freshman that asks how you get ‘free ice cream.’ But the real part is the accountability piece… if you mess up, the rest of the guys get to tell you all day — ‘you ain’t no cowboy.’”
Coaches could all make more money selling copiers…but getting to build a culture like this is way more fun.

A reporter asked some @Grandview_FB after the state championship loss:
“We’re talking a lot about the leadership you’re showing right now. Talk about what coach has taught you…”
The players answered:
“Coach Randy Jackson helped us. We watched a Blueprint video every week. At first we didn’t take it seriously. Then we realized it mattered — and it helped us win.”
Coaches: winning is an event.
Being ready for moments like this is training.

Just got this text from Head Coach @JasonFreed96 after today’s Leadership Academy with @brainerdfootbal
“This was a great lesson today with the troops. They were very honest with their answers. I think it was an eye-opener for them to hear their teammates say the things they said.”
Fired up. This is how leadership actually grows.
Are you building leaders?

When teammates encourage each other, culture changes.

Team meal. Line forms.
Where are your seniors?
In the military, a 4-star General walks into a packed mess hall at noon…
and steps to the back of the line.
In the Follow Me leadership curriculum, we teach that standard:
Leaders Eat Last.
Leadership doesn’t happen by accident.
It must be taught.
👉 We talk about this and much more on today’s 4th & 3 podcast. Come get in the coaches office with @CoachRPorter & @stp54.

The 4-minute warmup isn’t about warming up.
It’s about discipline.

Coaches - Is being with your team the best part of your athletes’ day?
Not the easiest or the most comfortable.
Still demanding. Still hard.
But the best.
Do your athletes feel special when they’re with you and the team?
I used this exact question last week during an athletic program audit, and the answers didn’t just add depth and clarity—the athletes felt heard.
I just released a free, anonymous Google Form you can use to do the same.
Download it - make a copy and send it out today.
It takes athletes about 5 minutes.
It gives coaches real clarity.
If you want to understand what it actually feels like to be in your program on a normal day, this is a good place to start.

One sentence from a teammate changed Super Bowl history.
This week I'm building a lesson for our Blueprint teams around Super Bowl 49.
Everyone remembers Malcolm Butler’s interception.
Few people know what happened right before it.
After Butler gave up a long completion, Brandon Browner stepped in.
- Not to coach him. Not to criticize him.
- But to tell him to 'shake it off' and play the next play
That’s what most teams miss. Not effort. Not talent.
They miss the moments when a teammate should speak—and doesn’t.
In the Blueprint Team Curriculum, we train athletes to use their voice:
- After mistakes
- Before big plays
- When confidence starts to slip
Because silence isn’t neutral—it’s a choice.
And verbal teammates don’t just encourage…
they change outcomes.

I got a call today from a new client in the Midwest.
He didn’t sugarcoat it.
“This past season was miserable. We won the last game just to finish 1–9. I disbanded our leadership council before the season because they weren’t leading at all.
We don’t need tweaks—we need a full culture rebuild."
We decided to start with the Leadership Academy to begin developing real leaders.
As you take inventory of this past season, ask yourself this:
How was your leadership when things got hard?
If your answer is, “We need to train our captains better,” then that’s not a failure—it’s a starting point.
You can’t expect leadership from athletes you’ve never trained to lead.

@CoachJacksonTPW@fastnwide
Most head coaches this time of the year say “we need better leaders”…
But, like last year, they'll cross their fingers & hope for the best.
Most programs don’t have a leadership problem.
They have a leadership SYSTEM problem.
Very few programs actually TEACH leadership on purpose.
Your leaders won't 'just figure it out'.
The Blueprint Leadership Academy is a plug-and-play system built specifically for captains and leadership councils.
✔️ Weekly structure
✔️ Real scenarios captains face
✔️ Guided discussions
✔️ Clear expectations
✔️ Zero prep for coaches
This isn’t motivational content.
It’s training.
If your captains matter, leadership can’t be a cross-your-fingers process.

"I'm using all of this!"
These are actual text messages I received from head football coaches after listening to Justin Velasquez on 4th & 3:
“Pure gold! Great job!”
“I start a new job soon and am using all of this — Evolution vs. Revolution, the wheelbarrow, the 4-minute warm-up. Great stuff!”
4th and 3 will never be philosophy, but tactics coaches can use the next day.
