There was a 25-year-long study called the Copenhagen City Heart Study that tracked more than 8500 people who played a variety of sports.

They found that the sports that increased life expectancy the most were:

Tennis: 9.7 years
​Badminton: 6.2 years
​Soccer: 4.7 years
​Cycling: 3.7 years
​Swimming: 3.4 years
​Jogging: 3.2 years
​Calisthenics: 3.1 years

There are a few reasons why racquet sports dominate the top spots:

1. They are community-based. You play these sports with a group of people who eventually become your friends.

2. They are a form of zone 2 cardio, which has been shown to extend lifespan.

3. They relieve stress. You can't think of work or other stresses when playing these sports. You need to be present.

Add in the element of hand-to-eye coordination and you have a recipe for living longer both physically and mentally.

I don't know about you but I'm about to invest in a few pickleball racquets.
