The #Guji and the Bale people are protesting to express their disapproval of the establishment of a new zone named “East Borana” w/c is formed by carving out lands from the Guji, Bale and Borana zones without consultation with the people. Protests and boycotts has continued in #Gujii. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso’s Transitional President since the 2022 coup, is often compared to Thomas Sankara, the revolutionary leader who governed Burkina from 1983 to 1987. Some criticize him for going 40 years back to learn from Sankara. It’s more than 15 days since #Cholera outbreak is reported in Wadera wereda of #Gujii zone of Oromiya region. Reportedly more than 20 people died of it at heath centers. Many more are dying before they arrive at health centers. The area is drought-stricken & the problem is exacerbated as a result of instability in the region. No media coverage so far.
