@TTChelps@RobsonSmith20 Hi it has taken over 20 minutes from queen to bloor - any idea what’s going on? Extraordinarily slow. There have been no announcements on the train.
Joint Statement by CIJA, @UJAFederation, and @FederationCJA:
There is a coordinated campaign to erase Jewish life in Canada. And it is not only being waged through violence and intimidation.
For months, a veritable witch hunt across various channels has targeted all Jewish community institutions with the goal of erasing Jewish life in this country. Today, this campaign, orchestrated by radical anti-Jewish and anti-Israel groups, has crossed a new threshold by attacking our community's schools, with a clear and blatant intent to weaponize the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
Fringe activists have filed malicious complaints targeting 11 of our schools across Canada, as well as members of our community. The goal is not transparency, but a blatant desire to paralyze and destroy Jewish community life in Canada. Targeting our schools means targeting our children, and that is unacceptable.
Let’s recall the facts: since October 7, Jewish schools have faced real threats—gunshots, incendiary devices, antisemitic graffiti, and harassment. Instead of protecting children, these malicious actors prefer to put a target on their backs, using them as pawns for their vile antisemitic propaganda, which ultimately attacks the very values of our country.
CIJA, supported by leading legal experts, is actively engaged with the government to counter this offensive. While there is no indication of elevated security threat, we will continue to work with Security Networks all across the country and authorities on security and safety. Targeting Jewish schools means targeting Canadian children, which is sickening and unacceptable. We trust that Canada Revenue Agency will reject this cynical attack on the integrity of schools that, every day, proudly teach Canadian values.
All I have to say about Ben Gvir is this:
When the Jews of Egypt were finally freed, they started to praise God when the Egyptians, who charged after them trying to re-enslave them, were drowned in the sea. God chastised them, and to this day, we spill a little wine out of our cups at the Seder to remember to have empathy and pity - even if it is our enemies being destroyed.
We are not supposed to be pacifists. But neither are we supposed to cheer at the downfall of men - any men - all whom are created in the image of God.
Have a death penalty for terrorists. Don't have a death penalty for terrorists. For me - the conversation SHOULD have been about this worthy debate. Instead, we're all rightfully distracted by the disgusting and disturbing actions of a man who pops open champagne and wears a pin of a noose to celebrate the death penalty.
Lest you think most Israelis support this inhumanity, I will remind you that Ben Gvir was banned from serving in the IDF, and has 13 criminal convictions. Every country has more than a few politicians worthy of being embarrassed of. Ben Gvir is one of Israel's.
Why I’m inviting Carney to meet Vaughan’s Jewish community | @StevenDelDuca@TorontoStar https://t.co/guTGMHsqHw
"Like the prime minister, I am Roman Catholic. I’ve never had to submit to security screening to enter my church. ... It’s not like that for Jewish Canadians."
I am not Jewish, so I will leave the details of today’s announcement to those it most directly impacts.
But my opinion for what it’s worth, the fact that this funding is necessary at all should concern every Canadian.
For too long, Canada has stood by while antisemitism has grown louder and more brazen, eroding the values of safety, respect and tolerance that this country was built on. No community should have to rely on security funding simply to feel safe gathering in their schools, community centres or places of worship.
Heavy police presence should never be required at a children’s day school, simply because those children are Jewish.
We have laws in this country. Laws against hate, intimidation and violence. They must be enforced. And those who commit these acts must be met with the full force of a justice system that does not tolerate terror. The fact that this even needs to be said is, in itself, a failure.
A just society cannot exist if hate is tolerated, minimized, or excused. Protecting Canadians from antisemitism and all forms of hate is not optional, it is a responsibility.
Canada must show moral clarity and the courage to act.
Multiple shootings targeting Toronto-area synagogues. Attacks on Iranian and Jewish-owned businesses. And now gunfire at the U.S. Consulate.
This is a matter of national security.
Our leaders and authorities must take urgent, coordinated action to address these threats before innocent lives are lost.
