As @JustinBieber prepares to perform at the 2021 Formula 1 @SaudiArabianGP, we're joining our calls with others and asking him to live up to his words and stand up for what is right.
All solidarity w/ & support for @hossambahgat & @EIPR, as we await tmrw's verdict in his trial on charges of "insulting an electoral body." The case stems from a tweet in which he fairly critiqued the job performance of the electoral authority head amid reports of electoral fraud
A father, husband, and former parliamentarian Hamdy Hassan died yesterday in AlAqrab prison. Hassan spent 8 years in solitary confinement, denied visitation with family over the last 5 years, and, according to family members, denied medical attention leading to his death.
Absolutely distressing verdict, and unconscionable that last week top U.S. officials welcomed Egyptian counterparts and praised strategic partnership and vision for human rights. Why should we believe diplomacy is effective behind closed doors when it's not reflected behind bars?
Father of US advocate, Salah Soltan, has been held incommunicado for months as retaliation for his son's activism. The Egyptian regime continues to use intimidation tactics & cruelty to threaten people into silence.

@stevesalaita It caught him off guard but then he said “yea, you’re right” and proceeded to admit that his maternal grandmother was Syrian but that he was disconnected from his heritage and aimed to change that fact. I love witnessing personal growth.
@stevesalaita My son’s last soccer team manager, after asking his name, said “well, looks like we need to come with a nickname for that”… to which I promptly responded, “if you can wrap your tongue around names like Tatum, Phinneas and Brynnlee, I’m sure you can pronounce Jihad.”
Mohamed Al-Imam is a permanent U.S. resident who was forcibly disappeared in Saudi Arabia on August 14, 2018. His family has not seen or heard from him since. They deserve answers.
The US must demand that its ally investigate and inform them of his whereabouts.

The US military produced over 1.2b tonnes of carbon emissions during the war on terror and is a bigger polluter than 140 countries, yet military pollution is exempt from the agreements at #COP26
We’re at imminent risk of being arrested & having our offices closed, bcz of our #humanrights & advocacy work towards justice in #Palestine, as the Israeli army issues an order today extending @gantzbe criminalisation to the occupied West Bank. We won’t be silenced #StandWithThe6
As of today, @amnestyusa prisoner of conscience Ramy Shaath has been held in illegal pretrial detention, 4 months beyond Egypt’s 2 year pretrial detention limit. I’m still waiting to hear from the @EgyptEmbassyUSA when he will be released.
“I’m out here. I’ll be your voice until you can speak for yourself.”
@RealHissah with a message to her imprisoned husband, who she claims is being tortured by the Saudi government.
For context, great reporting from @cornishft on how Cairo treats agribusiness. They tanked a publicly-traded company (with U.S. shareholders) that employed 4,000 Egyptians because its leadership wouldn't bow to the military's demands. https://t.co/kyS4v4nyfF
Ted Cruz abhorrently declares that Americans should be imprisoned and tortured because they have said hateful things or, worse yet, are children of those who have.
Ted Cruz...who days ago insisted that Nazi salutes are a protected form of free speech.
