@land_browns I think it’s also people’s inability to discuss a move without declaring a winner. There is risk for both sides. Does Garrett fall off? Do Brown squander the picks? But I think both teams got what they were looking for in the trade. Only time will tell if it works out for both.
@MidFanEnergy@RLVPHOTO@karnsies817 He was also double-teamed like 20-30% percent less than the top edge rushers. Wonder if that changes in CLE? Like Verse a lot. Also think it’s alright for people to say this could be a trade where both sides benefit.
@buickhellcat@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson I like Verse a lot. But it’s all a gamble. Maybe Garrett falls off. Maybe Verse never takes a next step. Shoot, if Simpson doesn’t work out, having Verse on this roster in five years might’ve looked like Cleveland with Garrett. Going to be interesting to see what happens.
@jackalspat@realjeffsimmons I mean, this is a QB driven league. Browns don’t have one. But it is worth noting he was double-teamed at more than twice the rate verse was (certainly helps the rest of the Rams line). And he was on a team almost always playing from behind.
@buickhellcat@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson I get you. It’s a valid concern. I also agree crazy stuff happen in the NFL so none of us really knows what may happen. But do think he can still provide a level of production and command the kind of attention from teams to make this move a success in the rams target SB window.
@SeahawksLead Only one team has repeated in the last 20 years and only two have multiple SBs in less than a 3 year span. Both had all-time great QBs. If you have a shot to win now, go for it. On a side note, history under current leadership clearly shows Rams can maintain long-term success.
@CorbinSmithNFL I think Garrett does 3 things: he was doubled at more than twice the rate of Verse. This makes an already strong line even better. He is a closer Rams lacked, especially 2nd half of the season. Finally, he provides another veteran leader for a team with youth a key positions.
@Mo12thMan I’m a Rams fan but I hate the “Rams are a lock to win” narratives. especially considering the one and done nature of the playoffs, the thin margins between winning and losing and the fact injuries are a given in football. Parsons wasn’t even out there for GB come playoff time.
@GageEHC My issue is this idea that a trade can’t benefit both teams. Garrett is an upgrade for what Rams are trying to do the next 2-3 years. Verse is a really good player that should get even better. Browns do need to hit on those picks. But they aren’t looking to win the SB in 2026.
@YrdAftrContract@DianteLeeFB Not sure the Rams care if Garrett is the sane guy in 2028. I think this trade was good for both teams. But I do feel like there are a lot more variables required to go right for the Browns in order for this to be a success. Will they draft and develop well?
@buickhellcat@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson Also, for the brown, those picks are only good if they turn them in to something. I get WHY teams make these moves. But it’s just as likely (if not more, given their history) that browns squander those picks than Garrett fall off a cliff next 2 years.
@buickhellcat@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson You aren’t wrong. But there are also multiple examples of great pass rushers like Garrett (White, Smith, Randle, Green) that were consistently hitting double-digit sacks until their mid-30s. And this move is for the next 2-3 years.
@Michael_Fabiano I mean, in today’s league where the passing game is emphasized so heavily, what happens to ANY contender if they lose their starting QB? As thin as the margins are, cant think of a single team favored to win their division that would still be favored without their starting QB.
@NinerTribe004 Never understood “what about the future” argument. I’ll take trying to win now over hoping your team might be in position to win in 5 years. Will it be disappointing if they don’t win? Of course, but I’ll take going for it over repeatedly hearing “just wait till next year.”
@FAmmiranteTFJ McDuffie was thier 1st this year. Simpson was a bonus. They drafted their QB of the future knowing they likely aren’t going to pick inside the top 20 before Stafford hits 40. They then took next years 1st that wouldn’t get them a QB and turned it into the DPOY.
@1PrideInsider@NFL_Researcher@NextGenStats Let’s not forget like 25 more sacks and a double-team rate that is about 40% higher. All while being on a team that was consistently playing from behind (so less pass rush opportunities). Verse is a stud. But Garrett is a generational talent.
@TkachukFanAcc The extra pick allowed them to address how a team drafting outside 20 for the next 2/3 years gets a successor for their 40 year old QB. You aren’t wrong. But if not securing a QB meant not being open to move off those picks, I’m fine with how things turned out.
@DamonAmendo Their true 1st was McDuffie. Besides, if they are so stacked, who are you drafting that you are sure contributes this year? A WR? Look how many targets WR3 got last year. They secured the QB of the future AND freed up a pick next year to acquire an instant impact player.
@VanLathan Good for both. Rams get a generational win-now player for a win-now roster. Browns get long-term value. But I do have more confidence that Rams can maximize Garrett than I have in the Browns ability to build a successful roster.
