Parents absolutely get to decide what books their kids read or don’t, but their jurisdiction doesn’t extend to other people’s children. Our family (and many others) wants our kids/grandkids to read accurate history and the rich stories of ALL of humanity. Leave our kids alone.
Today, @drsanjaygupta reported on a treatment we're studying for "brain fog" - interviewing me and one of our brave #Longcovid survivors. Please watch and listen and don't give up hope - neuroplasticity is a real phenomenon. @CIBScenter

@LoganBethFisher #G2Great Agreed, Logan! As my friend and colleague @KatherineBomer says, "Naming what a child is doing is believing that child up" - even if it is a partial understanding.
@LiteracyCoachKS #G2Great One concrete routine to encourage this habit of mind is to have kids keep their independent reading books on their desks during writing workshop. Then when a teaching point comes up, we can say "Let's look to see how you author did it!"
@DrMaryHoward#G2Great Thanks, Mary! And yes - if you've just worked with a child on inference in a reading conference, why not invite her to consider what she wants her reader to infer in the next writing conference, and consider how she might accomplish that? (As just one example....)
"Even though I was hospitalized for pancreatitis, kidney failure, lung failure, blood clots, etc the post-ICU experience was and is the WORST part of my ongoing illness and sadly no one even told us to expect it." An ICU Survivor. @CIBScenter
@ILAToday@TXLiteracyEd you can support the students and teachers of Uvalde and help them prepare for next year by sending books. https://t.co/hWdEUlXx3F
A conversation btwn author @TanyaSWright + editor @KatieWoodRay about how to take advantage of opportunities throughout the day to ensure that all children learn the words they're going to need to become better readers, writers, speakers, and listeners.
