@MadcapCreations A publisher once asked a (former) client of mine, half-jokingly, if she could write a teen vampire novel. She did just that, did it in a month, and it was immediately published. The $125K? Nope, that didn't happen. Not even £1.25. [The publisher is now dormant, by the way.]

@AmitaMurray I always try to let authors know that they should not be discouraged by rejections - they have created something, and that is an achievement in itself. No more than 2% of submitted work ever gets published. In fact I would say less than 1% in times of economic depression.

@chels_of_harper @MarciMarquez06 I agree entirely. I have had to turn down really excellent books for a variety of commercial reasons, and having to do so isn't pleasant for me either! I make a point of telling people to keep writing, whether they get published or not. Being creative is a wonderful thing.
