To the Americans:

I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.

And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:

You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.

This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.

Success is equated with exploitation.
Ambition is looked upon with contempt.

This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.

But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.

This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.

And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:

Thank God for the United States.

Thank God for the wisdom of its founders.
Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man.
Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.

Long may your admirable country dominate the world.

Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.

May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning.

Your country is the light of the world, and the city on the hill.

Thank God for the USA.

I would totally appreciate if someone had a look at the gift I bought as well. It can’t be redeemed , generic error message. Money taken from me. I can’t get anyone to issue a refund - not even a place where to request a refund or ask for a solution just a bot with generic answers and a non responding support.

@kimmonismus I really don't understand why copilot m365 is so crappy. It can't be that hard... I've built similar tools for my customers in a very short time, and the tools work incredibly well. Yes, with m365 there are complexities involved, but c'mon... happy to help with that, just ask.

The more I work with generative AI, the harder it gets to turn off my brain when watching Star Trek ... and wonder why the AI can do complex tasks, but not some of the most basic things.

Of course, there will come a time when we still choose to do things manually that could easily be handled by AI  (cooking, painting, repairing things, maybe even coding). And for sure, it is fun to move up the sliders on the transporter console! 🥳

But when it comes to high-precision, fast-decision combat (sometimes the phasers are aimed by the AI, sometimes it’s just “enter firing pattern alpha”), navigating a nebula, or reconfiguring the warp core?

Yes, we need the “human in the loop” in certain cases... but maybe not in life-threatening situations where milliseconds count.

I know shows like Lower Decks do this for comedy, (cleaning the bio-filters works as a punishment, after all 🤮), and there is the “dramatic effect” needed for TV.
But it really makes you think about where the line will be drawn between 'human growth', 'ethics' and 'AI efficiency'.
And yes, probably AI will be banned from doing certain things, in combat as well. The question is: would other species do the same?

@ScottAdamsSays I’ve built a few rag systems with python, on different clouds and locally, with different databases as well (mauve being my favorite ;) ). The key point is usually the embedding and retrieval not the tools. Let me know if I can help

I am pretty sure AGI does not take a decade... with ideal circumstances, no politics, games or foul play involved I'd say within one year.

AGI not in a sense that one AI can do what all humans combined can do (all at once), but with the capabilities of one average human.

Lets give it 2-3 years from now.

I am pretty sure others are working on this too, especially @xai @elonmusk

A bad idea would be to be locked in already...
Maybe time to think of a cross-ai-platform language/platform/... (like Flutter,...)?
