Hi @NYTimesPR, thanks for responding. Appreciate it. I'm a subscriber and I think some of your reporters do some great reporting.
Just to respond to your response to my post:
1) There were no facts "misstated" by me. You cited three examples in response. Only one of them was about specific *named* GOP House members (and it wasn't from "yesterday", it was from a year ago.) So I stand by my post.
2) As others have pointed out already, none of the 3 articles you cited have the names of any GOP individuals in the titles ("Right-Wing Republicans" "a Kansas Republican" "G.O.P. Fingerprints"), in comparison to your original "Who is Darializa" takedown piece. Where is your "Who is Brandon Gill" or "Who is Keith Self" or "Who Is Randy Fine" or "Who Is Mary Miller" critical profile pieces? How about "Who is Tom Emmer," given the GOP House Majority Whip just a few days ago spewed racist crap about Somalis? And where are the Peter Baker tweets summarizing *their* most controversial claims?
3) This isn't a new criticism. Many have made it against your paper for many years; that you go harder on the left than the right, that you even occasionally whitewash the far right. Remember when you had to do a public response in 2017 to a NYT profile that went super soft on a... Nazi? https://t.co/IF6DhTwcrp. Remember when you guys did a softball piece about a far-right, Islamophobic Trump aide's love for cooking? https://t.co/dp0Sf9PQg9.
Oh, and dare I ask: where are the fawning 'Trump voters' in diners' equivalent pieces for DSA members in NYC bodegas? Isn't it time?
4) Finally, that your response to my post was to proudly say you guys at the Times have "been documenting the increasingly extreme viewpoints on both sides of the political spectrum" kinda makes my point for me. One side's extreme wants universal healthcare and an end to genocide. The other side's extreme says Somalis are "garbage" and wants "remigration", mass deportations and white supremacy.
But, hey, "Both sides!"
Each of the 8 steel petals on that roof weighs 500 tons, roughly the weight of a loaded commercial aircraft, and the whole system opens in 8 minutes. The motors running all 8 petals combined produce less power than a Honda Civic engine. Two things inspired the design: the oculus, the circular skylight at the top of Rome's Pantheon built about 1,900 years ago, and how a camera lens opens and closes.
Then there's the video board. A 360-degree LED screen wraps the inside of the roof, 58 feet tall and 1,075 feet around, big enough for a helicopter to fly through the center. Stand it upright and it clears Atlanta's tallest building by 50 feet. It came in 35 trucks, was put together from 600 pieces, holds 37 million LEDs, and when it debuted in 2017 it was nearly three times larger than any screen the NFL had ever used.
The stadium took 39 months to build, used 27,000 tons of structural steel, and covers 2 million square feet, about 35 NFL fields laid end to end. Final cost: $1.6 billion. Add the $200 million World Cup upgrade and the total hits $1.8 billion.
In November 2017 it became the first professional sports venue in the world to earn LEED Platinum, the top level of green building certification. The 4,000 solar panels produce enough power to run 9 full NFL home games a year. A 680,000-gallon underground tank collects rainwater from the roof and redirects it to local tree programs and the stadium's cooling systems. The LED lighting uses 60% less energy than standard stadium lights.
FIFA does not allow commercial brand names on tournament venues, so the building goes by Atlanta Stadium this summer. It hosts 8 matches between June 15 and July 15, closing with a semifinal.
The Iranian navy, which has been destroyed eight times, has apparently closed the Strait of Hormuz again, because the United States, for the seventh time, won the war that wasn’t a war, so now the United States has to open the Strait of Hormuz that was already open before the not-war began.
The not-war began because Iran had uranium that was totally, completely, beautifully obliterated, so they can’t build the nuclear bomb they weren’t building, which is why the United States had to start the not-war it definitely didn’t start.
Now the United States, which has nuclear weapons, is threatening to use nuclear weapons to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, because nuclear weapons are far too dangerous for countries with nuclear weapons to allow other countries to have.
If the United States saw the United States doing what the United States does in other countries, the United States would invade the United States to liberate the United States from the tyranny of the United States.
They loved Marjorie Taylor Greene, now they hate her.
They loved Thomas Massie, now they hate him.
They loved Lauren Boebert, now they hate her.
They made fun of Biden for nodding off ("Sleepy Joe), now they ignore Trump outright falling asleep.
They put "I Did That" Biden stickers on high gas prices, now they ignore gas prices being even higher.
They bragged about Trump being the no wars President, now they support war.
They bashed Biden for sending money to Ukraine, now they ignore Trump sending money to both Ukraine and Israel.
They demanded the Epstein files, now they bash anyone asking for the Epstein files.
To be a MAGA is to be a slave.
Not physically, but mentally.
They stand for nothing.
We're up against people who stand for nothing.
And with the most misplaced confidence you've ever seen, they try to tell us whats-what.
We shouldn't even acknowledge these people.
The Trump supporters that remain are mentally too far gone.
I don't even want to argue with them anymore.
I’m surprised Trump hasn’t been able to get Iran to surrender since he’s had all the cards for 9 weeks and they’ve been begging him for a deal every day.
Congratulations, Virginia! Republicans are trying to tilt the midterm elections in their favor, but they haven’t done it yet. Thanks for showing us what it looks like to stand up for our democracy and fight back.
Only one chance in this lifetime…
Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him.
I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.
When Obama sent Iran $400m + $1.3bn in interest in 2016 Trump called it "insane" and he and others spent a decade mocking the idea of "pallets of cash" even though it was Iran's own money, American prisoners were released, courts were likely to require the U.S. payment, and Iran had just agreed to significant and verified reductions and restrictions on its nuclear program for 15+ years. Now Trump is giving Iran up to ten times that amount of revenue--one of the most significant measures of sanctions relief provided to the Islamic Republic since its founding--in exchange for marginal and temporary relief from the big increase in oil prices his actions have caused, without any concessions from Tehran, and even as Iran continues to target the United States, its allies, and world oil supplies. No way to read as anything other than desperate recognition of the situation Trump's own actions have created and the lack of available alternatives for dealing with it.
Holy shit, catastrophic morning for Trump:
> Oil prices surge as the Strait of Hormuz slows to a halt
> 92,000 jobs unexpectedly lost in February
> Market shock as a result of prior points
> Easing sanctions on Russian oil…
> only to learn that Russia is helping fund Iran
The desire for progressivism is not about economic policy - it’s about fucking doing something!
There is no such thing as a moderate in this environment.
The system is broken.
Being a moderate means failing to fix that.
I’m a former moderate Republican who has supported blue tickets since 2014.
I think we need to:
* Tax the rich more.
* Guarantee access to healthcare.
* Codify Roe v Wade.
* Expand the courts.
* Strengthen labor unions.
* Ban SuperPACs and dark money in our elections.
* Abolish ICE.
* Massively expand gun control measures.
* Ban Congress from trading stocks.
* Ban Congress from lobbying for a 5 year term.
* Prosecute this entire administration.
* Codify Obergefell.
* Ban stock buybacks for any company with employees on food stamps.
You can believe all that and be:
* Pro-business
* Pro-technology investment
* Pro-capitalism.
You were lied to by people who told you the American Dream was a Republican issue while they sold out the middle class to rich oligarchs.
Capitalism is at its best, with strong labor unions and fair taxes.
It isn’t communism to think you should die because you were too poor to pay your medical bills.
And the only way Dems will understand this focus group, is when they understand progressive means action.
I’m not a very smart man but it looks to me like a computer thought this said Don and redacted it.
In case you don’t realize it yet this is a big cover-up.
Pam Bondi just sent a letter to Minnesota officials saying ICE will leave if the state turns over its voter database to Trump.
Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. It’s a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states.
Pritzker: "The GOP is nowhere to be found. They're the ones that scream and yell about 'federal tyranny' about interference with states' rights. And now, their president is violating states' rights and attacking our states and Republicans are nowhere to be found to talk about it."
When I was 22 years old, I commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and swore an oath to the Constitution. I upheld that oath through flight school, multiple deployments on the USS Midway, 39 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm, test pilot school, four space shuttle flights at NASA, and every day since I retired – which I did after my wife Gabby was shot in the head while serving her constituents.
In combat, I had a missile blow up next to my jet and flew through anti-aircraft fire to drop bombs on enemy targets. At NASA, I launched on a rocket, commanded the space shuttle, and was part of the recovery mission that brought home the bodies of my astronaut classmates who died on Columbia. I did all of this in service to this country that I love and has given me so much.
Secretary Hegseth’s tweet is the first I heard of this. I also saw the President’s posts saying I should be arrested, hanged, and put to death.
If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.
At a time when solar and wind are the cheapest forms of new energy in the world, Trump wants to open a BILLION acres of US water to oil drilling.
Why? To line the pockets of his fossil fuel billionaire friends.
The rest of the world moves forward, we get left behind.
That Trump would attack one of his most loyal supporters because she is simply asking for release of the Epstein files, that would exonerate him if he's innocent, tells you that the files are an existential threat to him.
